I just came back from a paddle with the ‘lurker’ known as ‘Popeye’ , now a fellow Perth west australia dweller .
Good bloke , nice board … a Josh Dowling [‘speedneedle’] twinfin .
We did a board swap , it was nice to ride a twinnie , and great to see someone else ride my ‘prawn’ board , finally ! (…As I mentioned to [real name ] Pascal , most people I offer it to go " nup , I’m not going to ride THAT p.o.s. ! " [good ol’ open-minded wozzies , eh ?!] )
Well , it was pretty backwashy and crowded [a huge clubbie carnival has taken over the WHOLE beach , for this and next weekend !] , but it was nice to meet another ‘swaylockian’, and have a chat between waves !!
cheers mate !
ben
p.s. - tomorrow at 6.30am then , eh ?
Hopefully, with the offshores that are forecast , and everyone getting ready for work and school , we “may” get a few waves to ourselves …it usually comes good around 8.30 onwards , actually , IF the seabreeze hasn’t blown in by then !
"posting the pics… yeah, what the hell. definitely show the board, i don’t mind at all. and if any of the surfing pics come out okay, and if i don’t look too totally s******c in them, then yeah, go for it.
maybe one of the big surf companies will be watching and offer me a sponsorship deal, for free surfing no less. watch out rasta, popeye is on his way up! har har!
no, i never saw the thread until i looked for it now. cool. but, you didn’t say how i enjoyed riding the prawn, and that the tracky keels felt really good under my feet. "
ben
[well, it seems like a year in perth has already warped the poor bru’s mind sufficiently …]
Note …he WAS joking about the sponsorship deal ! [I need to make that clear… He said he didn’t want to “sound like a prat” …fair enough…]
The classic pinline was Pascals choice, and so as not to give him any rude surprises, I decided not to go an unauthorised explicit airbrush portrait of his lady!!!
Love to hear how you like the board.
From here on I’m contracted to only make composites:- Pascals board was MY LAST POLY!!!
and good to see you on Surfermag too, hammering those guys in the Mayhem thread. Felt like I had an old ally on my side!
But it does get tedious does’nt it, trading heated words with complete strangers… I may have to give it up, it does’nt achieve much!
Shame they will now be forced by law to go Epoxy, rather than doing so cos they actually figured out the benefits…
I met GL this week. He is a classic guy. We ran around throwing composite ideas at each other like excited Groms.
The bottom edge on that twinfin is not all that radical:- Its a hard call from the photos. My intention was that as a twin fin, obviously it is for small waves, so hard edge near the fins would allow it to drift a little in hard turns.
Pascal really wanted an optional trailer fin, but I kind of insisted it be a pure twinfin, and now he has had to get it done after-market…
and it took a ridiculously long time to arrive in Perth…
Well, it was dropped off at the longboard shop for back plugs this week , and being me , I suggested 4 plugs , so he can use it as a single fin too. (He diplomatically declined … )
Actually I’m most interested in seeing how it goes as a single fin. Being able to put smaller side fins will be an interesting bonus, but it’s a single I want to try.
I should do some reading in the archives first to see what the consensus is on thruster-to-single conversions are.
no , I am with Tom Bloke on the idea of “only one way to find out …DO it !”
[Nothing like experiencing different designs for YOURSELF , to help overcome multiple , sometimes contradictory opinions , I find !]
cheers ,
ben
Paz , please bring that board over sometime soon , eh ?
I’m bored with no surf at the moment [one can only template so many fins and skateys !]
I need a ‘project’ to keep me busy , until the next visit to “the workshop” [Hicksy’s garage … before he starts on HIS next maaad project , no doubt !]
