The Red Wasp. Best of Show Board.

So after 3 months of work, I have nearly completed my entry for Best of Show board for the Boardroom Surfboard Show in May at Del Mar. This has been quite a bit of work. Here’s the rundown:

5’ 6" x 21.0" x 2.0"

Another from my Dissect series.

Aipa influenced Stinger design, Hand-shaped featuring a fully concave skateboard deck w/ beveled Chined rail. Hand-glued blank, Stringerless foam with red higher density rails. Black glue lines that actually distribute flex more evenly than a center stringer.

Glassed with S-glass with fattened laps for extra stiffness.

Twin-fin. Custom made fins w/ double foam inserts which cut the weight of the fins by 50%.

Pinlined and glossed awaiting polish.

All work was completed by myself including gluing of the blank and the construction of the fins.

See this board at The boardroom Surfboard Show May 17th and 18th 2014 at Del Mar.

Visit the Windigo Surfboards booth. See you there.

Very nice barry

you are an artist

…lots of work and looks pretty well done.

Good luck with the board in that show.

Best of luck Barry!

Really struck a nerve as a (very old) twin fin guy!

You craftsmanship is something to be admired.

BTY the volume deck kudo’s also do they judge on design/function me means surfing the board?

Cuz, Reading “Aipa” influenced stringers, AH maybe a “sting” take? Nuff on that.

Had to venture into the photo gallery to see more, particularly the fin cant, very nice.

Love the tail, well the whole deal and that thing should get under a ripper in some decent waves, looks like a real knee buckler.

In short Beauty, form and function.

Thats very nice Barry. !!!

Really nice looking board. The colored foam rails look great. So, the dots on the fins are where the foam was inserted after drilling out material from the original fin blank?

You didn’t use a surform did you??

Good job - Barry! I like that nose shape.

Classic!!!

Barry, in the link you posted, there is a photo with the glass not wrapped, but yet you are setting the fins. What is going on there?

Beautiful board

Thanks

Another fine surfamaboard Barry, congrats. I forgot to mention before how nice the curved one is too, those curves cross the stringer just right. -J

I think what you are seeing as glass is masking tape

Of course I did.

And it was shaped with PeteC’s Bosch planer.

Great board Barry, but I’m really getting tired of you pictures of your

too clean shaping bay!  I mean, even when its dirty, its too clean!  Do

you have a maid?  LOL  Just kidding, looking forward to see it up close

in May!  Good luck & hope ya win!

BKB

yeehaaa

  love the fins

now , if you make a jet bottomed version ,  you will win the show !!

Yah, that board’s awsome alright.

That Board so reminds me of a board I had shaped by the Late Mike Ceoteau, back around 1974/75 same tail design and it was also a winder design.  It was not a twin bt had a big wood Brewer style fin

great looking ride barry Hope you get some honors at the show.

Good luck in the show. Masterfully done as usual.
