Just got back from a month trip to Rincon PR and there were a few boards out there that really caught my eye. THey have the splatter effect to them. it looks like they squirt ELMERS glue on the board… sprayed it and peeled the glue off to give the un painted foam to be exposed.
Any ideas on how they do this on the foam before they glass job. i am sure any glue on the glass would work but i want it to look more professional then garage.
PS i was able to surf 15ft dogman’s out in PR and caught a few waves out in “baby” tres palms. pretty sick for my first time to PR.

Not sure about the glue method. My last board I used a splattered effect. I used a syringe and squirted it from different angles with different colors. definitly different.
i see where your coming from but whatever is being used in these cases when removed shows the foam and stringer. so its almost the negative of a paint splatter where the board background is airbrushed and the splatter is clear foam showing through… i will try to post a pic for an example of what i mean.
Flippnerd…I had a custom board made by Ed Sakal…it had a paint job just as you described…I always wondered how they got that effect… there is product called liquid masking tape that may have been used in the process for that effect…

you might not like my method. but i take dishwasher soap an squirt it on the hotcoat in random patterns. then take good old fashioned krylon and tag it up. let the paint dry and take the board surfing. the paint over the liquid soap will come off and you get a cool pattern.
Yep- gatordave got it. My friend did that to his board too.
I want to try the art cement on the blank with resin squirts from a syringe , as well as spray on rovings patterns. The 'South Coast ’ longboards here in the local longboard shop have some crazy pigment and tint effects on 'em […think bloodshot eyeball effect, but instead of all red ‘strands’, multicoloured instead !]

I use conditioner becuase it is thicker so it doestn run while you are letting the paint dry.
i am def going to try using the conditioner… and dish soap . ANy ideas on what i can use on the foam??? before i glass. I heard of the liquid masking… can i get it locally at a autosupply place or LOWES, HOMEDEPOT. thanks for your help guys. I hope to paint it up with week.

ive got it. its the opposite when you do it on foam. on foam you need to put your color down first then add your white. use the air gun to lay down your background then use a squeze bottole to add the stripes. cover the stringer first s you can peelit off, then cover whatever areas you want after the paint is dried. youll leave people wondering how you did it on the foam.
hey gatordave… this is kinda what i thinkink about trying … if i were to paint on the glass i would try the others. but the straight white paint seems like the best option. thanks for the help.
