Has anyone seen the Sprout- Thomas Campbell’s new movie- he’s touring the eastcoast with it. The Seedling was such a pleasure. I haven’t been able to find any reviews but the trailer for the film is so great. Great surfers, different styles all sorts of wave crafts- no surf ghetto. I am so amped, its not coming to santa cruz till October so fill me in.
The trailer has such a “ride what you like” vibe
There was an article in Transworld Surf about their trip to indo- a great photo of David Rastovich riding a surfmat with the biggest smile on his face. I am amped!(I said that before, huh?).
just talked with dan malloy the other night-they are involved with thomas on this project.anyway said they had great feed back from the showings so far and said they would show it, do some editing for the next show , show it, edit more.he was stoked on it and fom the footage i’ve seen, can’t wait to see the final product!
The best film I’ve seen in a long time. Being shot on 16mm it had a real cool classic look and vibe. Alex Knost just kills it. Its kind of a reflection of everything thats going on right now in surfing, longboarding, retro boards, mats, and modern thrusters. Can’t wait till it comes out on DVD to see it again.
The best sequence is Tom Wegener ripping in Noosa on what must be an 11’+ wooden creation of his.
Really great vibe through the whole movie. Lot’s of single fins, fish, twinzers, chicks on big boards. Such diversity in water sliding devices…made me wish for some modern day truster action…(actually no, not really. Sprout seems to have left those in the garage).
I rate this movie along with Shelter as tops in my book. Never saw the Seedling, his first movie though.
i loved the bonzer at big rock footage…just peeling square barrels and the mike stewart tow-in at jaws and the rastavich singlefin-gun at indo and the wooden surfboard making by tom wegener…Papopalonia???..mexico tow in at de tiburon spot?
…air mat bumper boats…pipeline bodysurf barrel…this movie has everything.i love it…its my favorite and they dont even show kneeboarding…but i forgive…
wow- nice to have this thread pop up again! yeah, I’m still not tired of Sprout. We lent it to one of my son’s friends and now he shows up at the house asking questions like “can I borrow the 11’3”? do you want some art I made?.." Cool! I think Thomas wanted to broaden people’s views on surfing and their creative selves and I think it worked.
that movie got me so stoked, I went out and bought a twin keel and twinzer KG fish when clark threw in the towel. I want to surf J bay like Dan Malloy, albeit backside. I just love these fish.
One of my favorite videos… 2 of my dream waves are in it… The one with Rasta below sea level getting barreled beyond belief… The one with the 2 Gerry Lopez singles in awesome Sunset like rights with absolutely perfect conditions… Ahwoooooooooooooo!!!
I was getting a little too focused on getting “good” at surfing on a thruster ala WCT supersurfers when this li’l flick came along. Just stoked me out. So I stroked out on a 5’6 keel, a 6’ twinzer, a 5’4 kneeboard, a 42" bodyboard, a 6’5 thruster, a 9’6 noserider and a pair of fins all within a week. Celebrate! Revelation! Mine to play with. My gifts to receive. tuning and turning. glassy or grumpy. The water responded with joy. Still stoked. Enter Glass Love- thank you Mr. Kidman. “What kind of barrel ride would you call that Mr. Purchase? Oh, a new birth”
Though just Sunday I stroked out to kneeride at a shacked location in SD/CA and felt myself a bit self conscious. The unwelcome power of the massed many with three fins and a rip, tear, lacerate mindset. Back out to less frequented haunts for more haunting rides.
" Only question- What’s next for Thomas Campbell ?‘’
the seedling
the sprout
the tree
[an ‘all wood surfboard movie’ with hicksy , paul jensen , robbo , richard mc , tom weggener , and that tom bloke …and anyone else in the multitude of woodsters lurking here …]
