Ok this is going to sound really really dumb...and no im not 'trolling'.
Looking to glass board number 2 (number 1 was done by someone else). Its a PU shortboard, and im thinking of heading in the UV catalyst direction (to allow time etc etc).
Ok here comes the dumb bit...
I was under the impression it was the catalyst that had the strong odour (strong, but dont ya just love it!), hence I thought using the UV stuff meant that there were less odours. Im now realising that its the resin odour that my neighbours might jump up and down about!!! can someone please confirm this for me...and even better hit me (not literally although I probably do deserve that given the question!) with any suggestions!
Yes the resin stinks, the catalyst will make you go blind if you get it in your eyes. So don't drink it or get it near your face. Resin & catalyst mix on your skin will start to burn when it starts kicks off. Hard resin on your toenails comes off easy with a razorblade, but you run the risk of cutting your toe cuticles and bleeding out. I sometimes use a wood chisel to remove the big blobs..... Acetone really smells bad at first...but then after 30 minutes you can't smell it anymore. It feels cool on the skin as it soaks through your cheap latex free gloves and into your blood stream, Acetone is the only thing that will clean your tools easy.
Epoxy doesn't smell. Better to use that if your worried about your neighbors.

Styrene is what give the resin its smell. The smell will not last as long if you use UV resin. If you are only doing one board I doubt your neighbours will even care about a sweet resin smell for about half an hour. No different to your neighbour painting his fence or the smell of fuel when mowing his lawn or washing out his outboard.
Acetone is very helpful to keep your tools nice and clean.Minimum amounts only. Where gloves then throw them away.
A tip for new players. When using UV resin mix up a bit with catalyst for your logos. If you have any black on them it will not go off.
yeh only going to be one board at a time, with a fair gap in between (wish the gap was less!) so maybe I persist with the smelly stuff!
you mentioned UV resin....are you talking about using standard poly resin (smells), with UV catalyst (instead of mekp)....OR is there UV resin as well as UV catalyst.
also I have a couple of logos, and guess what, they are black..wots your suggestion on sorting this one!!???
Polyester resin requires mekp catalyst for curing or UV catalyst for curing, you add a small amount of mekp to your resin when using UV catalyst so the resin under black logos will cure.
