The Surfboard Book

The Surfboard Book How design affects performance.  Just saw this book on amazon and was wondering if anyone here has read the book?  The cover say that contributors are Simon Anderson, Dick Brewer, Mctavish Steve Lis and others.  Has a 5 star amazon rating.  Pretty sure I’m going to buy the book.  Before I do if you have read the book it would be nice to know if it has any insight into what makes board work?

i like the book very much, but since you seem to be around this place for a long time, i guess it wont blow your mind.

Buy it… for the love for books and boards.

regards

J

Some insights from the master is what I would be looking for.  There are always some tips and other insights into building better boards. Guess i’ll pick it up and do a review

Yeah let us know. My concern is that it would be too basic, but you never know. I learned tons from rusty’s blog on design, still go back and re-read and get more out of it every time.

surfboard design isn’t science, a lot of it is intuition and a lot is just trial and error. And some shapers are not skilled speakers and teachers. But I still pay attention, because those are some hard-earned insights.

And even the inter-web cannot replace one-on one real time interaction with a mater in his element.

I just want to thank the “Masters” who took the time to not only explain, but show me as well.

I was fortunate to work in the same building as Dick Brewer,

Even in a weed smoked haze, he showed his shaping wisdom freely.

Thanks RB.

If that old factory in Oceanside could talk I bet it would have some interesting things to say.Stories  The legends and hacks hustlers and
There was a lot of knowledge and history under that roof. Some lost in all that smoke and white powder, foam dust and beers . Lots of laughs and despite or because everything and everybody Some beautiful boards were created and loved. Those walls reek with History and Knowledge. Maybe the ghost can tell the stories. Maybe the ghost can pass on some of the Knowledge and skills.

Yeah every time I go visit Gary, it’s a trip down memory lane.

I could write a book.

But I won’t,

Most of those people are still my friends.

But back to the book.

I’ll probably buy it.

I am a surfboard geek.

I live surfboards.

Write the Book but don’t publish it untill 50 years after the last person involved is dead.

haha thats exactly why I like reading historical books 50 years after the fact - like the JFK assassination, think I’ve read close to every book on that subject!  Mark Twain wouldn’t allow The War Prayer to be published in his lifetime, too controversial, only published 13 years after his death.  Not that it names names, but it sure puts a different spin on things, lol.

My copy arrived yesterday, better than I expected. Lots of theory, very well written.

Nice to hear Jxff, I’ll be driopping hints for Birthday Gift Oh and if anyone wants to build me a birthday board feel free.  Nov 27 so get cracking!

Did you get the book?  How did you like it?
