I just got sent a job suggestion as an Oracle DBA in Santa Monica. I’ve never been to the left coast, but that’s probably more surfer friendly than where I currently work.
**A good friend of mine dose that job he has various degrees
in computer science and still has to study time to time but he earns top dollars
and likes the job. Good for you my friend !**
I'm still looking for my dream job as an international mystery 5-star hotel guest. Not sure how 'surfer friendly' that might be but there must be at least a few hotels near the water. I'd like to specialize in pool-side cocktail waitress evaluations...
I’m surprised nobody mentioned teaching. You get every Holliday known to man off and a lot more. Usually, has decent medical benefits, too. The little savages will wear you out and the pay isn’t great, but there is a thing called job satisfaction that is tough to beat. I recommend working with the little ones. They still care what adults think and they are funny. Too bad most of our time off is during the summer when it sucks, but if you don’t have a bunch of expenses you have plenty of time to travel to surf. Mike
Most days lately I regret my job choice (carpenter / remodeling contractor) as the bills pile up and no work to pay them. I guess its nice to say "what recession?" if you have work, but when you're in a field that runs on equity and bank loans, neither of which hardly exist anymore, its a different picture. You know what recession.
Last Thursday, however, was a different story. Very different.
I had work. Refinishing a deck I designed and built a couple years ago, for a very nice customer (a musician, in case you wondered about that deck design).
Huck's truck is happy with board above
started the day with a beautiful sunrise
and a few fun ones on my longboard
Yes, I treasure days like that - and I remember the reason I chose this miserable occupation LOL.
The ultimate Surfer Friendly Job is " Trust Fund Baby " The only disadvantage is all the hours you have to spend whining about how your Mommy and Daddy never really loved you.
Or, marry a woman who makes a lot more money and become a stay at home dad. I did it for about 12 years. Just me and the home schooled kids out everyday. Mike
Huck, the freedom we've earned over the years is priceless. A double edged sword. But I hear you about those days when everything is right. You pause and take a look around at breathtaking beauty, the pleasure of watching a storm fill in, or hitting the surf and scheduling your day around it. We really are lucky in that way but it is costly. But don't forget...WE'VE EARNED IT!!! Not to mention the satisfaction from building something that will outlast us for decades (hopefully centuries). We get to make our mark on the world in a positive way, and it makes it's mark on us. Cheers man, they are fewer and further between.
