I’m curious, how many of you out there were in attendance? If so, what were your impressions? I am always struck by the number of people who were influenced directly, and indirectly, by Mr. Dale Velzy. He left a lasting impression on the people, the industry, and the culture of surfing. I enjoyed the event, for it was an opportunity to reconnect with some folks I had not seen in many years. Comments?
Hey Bill,
I got to thinkin’ I shuda taken Bill Fury w/ me…hindsight and all that…I gave him a Velzy book…told Bill that Pezman sent it to him so I didn’t have to fess-up…

Herb,
I have not seen Bill Fury since winter of '63 on the North Shore. I would love to have seen him again. I wish you had told me you were in contact with him. When you see him again, tell him he is remembered for his style at Pipeline. You showed some real ALOHA giving your book to him. You da man.
B.T.,
Actually,
Indirectly,…you gave him the book…Hey next event that you invite me to,I’ll bring Fury w/ me.PEACE,OUT
Bill,
Fury says you were remembered for your balls at Sunset…I guess you stayed w/ him at ??? someones house at Velzyland…I forgot who he said it was…you’d remember…I’m sure.
I said,“in 63?”…he laughed and said,“yes”…(I was 7 yrs in 63)
I love it here… the spring seasons are like what I remember of Cali before the push…kinda know how the Indians and Hawaiians felt.
Well, got to go…Eddy’s daughter is tappin’ her foot.
Herb,
Yep, Bill Fury, Roy Crump, Mike Haley (with Sherri in tow) and some others (I can’t remember the names), had a place at Velzyland known as the Barracks. I think it was the same place that several years earlier was the ‘‘Mead Hall’’ for Curren, and the Windansea crew. Our crew stayed with them for three days, until we found a place of our own across from Kams’ market. Those were good times.
Hey Bill, I knew I had a photo of Bill FURY somewhere and I just found it in my old Great Surfing book by John SEVERSON. Sorry, my scanner refuses to work so I took a picture of the page with the digital camera. Here it is:
You probably know that one, anyway…
Balsa,
Thank you, I had not seen that photo before.
See, we’re not so distant after all…thanks again for being my friend.
