Thickness of the nose and tail ?!

Hey guys,

I’m shaping my first board.

I have to say that this is pretty difficult but I fell in love with shaping my board ;)

I couldn’t find a threat about the thickness of the nose and tail of a longboard…

I’m 5,7 and weight 70kg.

My board is 9,2 !

If somebody can just link a threat or give me an advice, that would be great !

Cheers

René

It isn’t critical. Just follow the blank

Your board is big, and you’re not, so you can go thin if you want, its not like you need the volume LOL - just be sure to leave enough thickness for your fin box, if you’re using one. A good guideline is to look hard at the boards you have been riding.

on your first board, just follow the rocker of the blank, don’t do anything fancy, just make a few passes on the top and bottom… skin the blank. Spend your time with the rail and foil.  This is where you board will look good or bad.  Way to many guys on this site fuss about plan shape, when the most important thing is rail and foil.

Your rail thickness will be dictated by where you start to foil the deck. if you want thin rails, then the foil will start closer to the mid line (6-8 in). if you want thick fat rails then you can start a few (3-6in) from the outline

You can have a thick tail and still have it look thin and foiled…same goes for the nose.  You have to really take a lot of foam off a LB blank to get a tail thinner than the 1-1 1/2 in for the fin box.  Just take your time and keep your planer flat and true.

Take a critical look at how the bottom and top rail meet, look at the apex see how much foam needs to be removed. also look at the bottom tucked edge, does it resemble a (coin…like a quarter) or is it hard and straight.  Look at the nose rail is the rail perfectly 50/50 contoured?..So spend some time looking at the little things before just going in and hacking away.

good luck

Thanks guys !!!

Worked on my board today ! The nose looks good !

The rails seem to be too fat ! Gonna take some foam of tomorrow, haha

My electric planner died today…

I will soon post some pics in “Post you current project/what are you working on?”
