Wow. Sounds killer. S&W plastics in Montclair might have it in 1/2" to 2" in 1lb and 2lb.
If you want, come over and I’ll cut whatever you need from my 2lb block (10’x 2’). I also have a scrap offcut sheet 2"+ thick from the top of the block that is 7’ long.
You’re that good with a hotwire,C ?..S#%t ! I knew 10 years ago you were up and coming but I think I under estimated you.
I’d love to…Let me rumminate on this and figure out what it is ,I’m trying to accomplish…here. I want to mold it like a skater blank…w/ the net results = deck and bottom basically or completely finished…only to shape out the rails/nose/tail.That should cut production time + there would be no need for a stringer as far as a strength factor goes.I also plan on laminating other products to it to eliminate more work while increasing strength and …possibly increasing performance.
…I can see it now…
… some d#%khead named Krusto will chime in on the idea and claim it as his own…
…typical of this and the skater industry.
Whatevers…I got your number…this will go solid …even if I don’t touch a tool to create it…the idea is out there now…and can be had by any skilled(or even hatachied) garager ho lika us !
You are more than welcome to get anything out of my materials including foam. From the sound of it, you are working on something wicked.
BTW - I am going to order more billet from Taige sometime this week. If you need a block, let me know. I get the strangest looks driving home with 10’ blocks sticking out of my truck. XPS blue can only be had in 4" thick max by 8’x4’, but the sky is the limit on EPS.
heya Chris, what density are you going to get? The last two boards I did were perimeter stringer but all 2lb. I’d like to get enough 3lb or greater for some rails.
I’m going to order 2lb. I can tack on your need for the 3lb block and see what Taige @ Insulfoam says. I do know that the rough amount of foam I need for a minimum order is about 2 - 10’x2’x3’ blocks. I really only need one of the blocks because I’m probably going to call McDing for my production needs. The block will be for my personal sick experiments.
BTW - What are you using to cut your perimeter stringers with? My last one I used a stiff blade in my jigsaw. Worked good until the blade got hot.
I gotta start using 5200 fastcure. Sounds like the bombdiggity!
my perimeter stringer cuts turn out like crap. All wobbly. The top of the cut is right down the marked line but when I turn it over it’s all over the place and torn as well. Next one I’m going to go as far as shaping the rails to get the amount of foam that is being cut down. And use a router or my small “one handed” hotwire cutter.
I only need a small amount of 3lb so it might not be doable. Maybe layers of thin balsa glued up rather than EPS foam?
I use a really stiff blade in my jigsaw. And I make sure to let it cool after cutting for a while. It only gets sloppy and wobbly when it gets heated up. Then things go to $h1t. And I always cut from the bottom. I figure most of the ugliness gets cut off when I bevel my rails anyways.
DrewTang posted pics where he uses some hotwire setup to cut his. It looks trick. My problem is trying to bend around the nose of a longboard. Shortboards would be much easier.
