I have been surfing 5’9" KG twinzer fish mostly around beachbreak between HMB and San Francisco. I’m 5’9" 160lbs. Thinking about ordering a Mandala Turbo Quad for my next board. Anybody have any experience surfing them around this area…wondering how versatile people think these boards are around here?
i dont know anything about that bro.
I just picked up a 5’8" Manny quad from Mollusk Surf Shop today. I took it out in some junky chest high waves to just get a feel for it. I’ve always know that quads were fast but I had no idea it moved at light speed. It’s also super loose in the pocket. I have the cutaway fin setup on it now. I can’t wait to see how it rides in cleaner surf.
Thanks for info, I am probably going to check out mollusk surf shop soon. How many Mandala boards did they have? Is yours the cutaway turbo quad…removable fins? Do you know the thickness? Was curious about your height/weight as I am trying to dial in the size I would get.
I had a KG twinzer for a while. It went out the door as soon as I got a turbo quad (Pavel Speed Dialer). By far the most versatile and exciting board I ever rode. It works in serious surf as well as slop. And I liked the twinzer very much (still have the Larmo twin)… This board is the best of all worlds: thruster, bonzer and fish.
What size is that speed dialer. Where did you get it?
It’s a 6’0" (Rainbow). Mitch’s shop in Solana Beach has quite a few if you live in SoCal. If not you can order one from Rainbow: http://www.rainbowsurfboards.com/fishes.htm
Great interview with Rich Pavel here: http://surfermag.com/features/onlineexclusives/pavelintrvu/
Oh and the turbo canards are extra but they are well, well worth the money. They make an amazing difference.
Hi, any chance of you guys posting template dimensions of the Turbo Quad and Speed Dialer?
Thanks guys, think I will go with the

A little closer to home and seems to have good reviews
I surfed that exact board a couple months ago at the SurferMag Fish Fry up at O’Side. Lotsa fun, though the waves were far from good when I rode it…Late afternoon in 1-2’ slop…
the waits long(6 mo) for a custom just like toby
at least you’re close enough to pay a visit
hopefully he’s up an running in his new shop to crank’em out
his glasswork is unreal
wish I had a turbo too
they(lokbox) came out after I got mine(futures)
Oh ya they work pretty darn good too…
mahalo manny…
Ever think about the classic fish shape, with a bonzer bottom? 5’10" below.
Manny, LM, SB, RP- they’re all making good products. Fishes everywhere. They do serve a purpose.

Hey Jason
is this one of those things you picked up when you went to Cali?
I gotta have you shop for me at the same time…
My brother’s building a 5-fin with CMP he took my 6’6" miller waterskate blank and turned it into his dream bonzer. CMP is putting in the center box and redex sides for him…
How does that bonzer fish ride?

Is that your board?? I am making a 6’3" just like it at the moment…waiting on fins…! If it is yours …how does it ride? I just noticed the e-wing on it…mine just has a sting…no e-wing…I used that same pic for reference ,but did not notice it was not a sting…anyway. Have fun…

The board has never been waxed yet. It surfs kind of like you would expect if you hooked up a classic fish with a bonzer set up. It’s loose, but not slidey. Single fin style lines.
I’ve only had one session on it (Ventura). The board’s still in CA, my home is in Hawaii, and I’m temporarily in Philadelphia with no boards. So what more can I say. I haven’t been surfing too much. I might have it shipped over here to Philadelphia, and give it a go in NJ.
Anyway, I’ve never tried a board with a wing before. I didn’t really notice the difference.
One thing I’d like to try is to surf the board without the center bonzer fin. That might be pretty neat.
The board came with a bonzer fin (rainbow) that was 6.0, noticeably smaller than the usual 6.5 True Ames bonzer fin.

I’m having a hard case sent over from HI to CA. It’ll stay there. I can bring back 3 boards under 7.5 ft if I’m lucky. 2 for sure. If you want to split the shipping, I’ll be on the lookout for you. PM me. I’ll be in CA in October on my way back to HI, and I have a good eye for stuff that we can’t get in the islands!
Thanks SS for the info…I am stoked to try mine. Have fun…
