Tiger shark attack at Lahillahi

Got back to Makaha this afternoon and the lifeguards told us the beach was closed due to a tiger shark attack off Lahilahi (about a mile east of here). Supposed to be a 15 footer and still cruising around in this area. Victim was bit in the arm but should be OK we were told.

We will look on the news this evening for more info.

PS I just surfed there (by myself) a couple days ago and I was spooked… caught two or three waves and went in…

Confirmed by local news station

On the 6pm news now. Also here:

Described as “very large” tiger shark, possibly pregnant.

Tv news said lifeguards saw the shark today, approx 16 footer.

Howzit Keith, A 16 footer is a daddy, when they hit 20 ft that’s a grandpa like the one outside Hanalei.Aloha,Kokua

Howzit Keith, This mornings Advertiser had a story about the attack but said it was only 100 yards from Makaha. Aloha,Kokua

Hi Keith, I saw the news clip. I was thinking about you staying out at Makaha. Lahilahi can be a really good wave with long lefts on the right swell. I surfed there quite a few times back in the late 70’s. There’s also a right on the south side of the mountain. Back then we never had the tiger shark problems that we’re seeing these days. I think it has somethig to do with the ban on catching turtles.

Too bad the surf is not cooperating. Be nice to have an overhead swell. I could certainly use some good sized waves to get my spirits up.

Going to be a busy week, but I hope to surf with you again before you head back to SD. The beginning of August should be a bit mellower.

Aloha, Harry

Hopefully it doesnt swim its way over here

Im with sharkcountry on this flatness… whats going, this is probably one of the worst summers in ages… total flatness since the beginning of july
