Timber veneer in oz?

Hey guys, where do you get veneers in oz? I have found veneered mdf, but i dont think that'd go well on a board. I hope to do a simmons later in the year and i think it'd be cool to put a timber veneer/skin on the deck. It'll be PU/PE, and i have no experience at veneers etc.

Cheers.

Hey Beery,

I've investigated veneers at these two companies -

Amerind

http://www.amerind.com.au/?section=veneers

Fethers

http://www.gfethers.com.au/

I'm not suggesting they're the only ones, let alone the best. I actually never went down that road, prefering to stick with my full composite build.

Be warned, the nice stuff is frighteningly expensive. I'm talking the rare and bookmatched exotics. In some cases you literally have to buy the entire sliced log. Bamboo is cheaper but a bit fugly and all imported.

The alternative is a cabinet maker who bags their own stuff. Be nice and get a deal out the back door.

Thanks josh. I dont think i'll do more than one, but i think a simmons would suit some timber on the deck. I'll probably use a lower density surfblanks, but it won't be so light that it needs the veneer, more for the look really, probably green. 4 bottom, 4under. veneer, 4over, though if it can be done properly without the 4oz under, i'll do it that way.

Went and saw the John (Operations manager) there and he said he would sell me the veneers no probs.

They are a factory that puts veneers onto timber and mdf for furniture.

Quite a range and color of timber too.

most veener available is .6      ya need to have a fair handle on it to get  it right.?

**having the right machinery lets you get a perfect veener. **

I’ve been getting cloth backed Chinese bamboo from Fethers for a few years.  They have a range of other veneers (local woods, etc.) available as leaves (rather than a boxful).

Get yourself an edge roller to get the veneer edges flat.  Use a vac bag to stick it on or be prepared for sand-throughs where there are bubbles. Careful, the bamboo splinters can pop holes in the vac bag, so a layer of nylon fabric is useful

Hey Mark,

Briggs Veneers in Wetherill Park in Sydney.

Unbelievable range of veneers and very good prices.

The only catch is you have to spend minimum of $100.

If you are keen let me know and I'll I can split some with you to make up the coin.

Cheers

Thanks Mick,

From memory this one was 10'4 x 30" x 5"?

Construction is VH grade EPS with 4oz inside Tassie oak veneer with , I think, 4 + 6 oz outer lam.

Sorry but I cant remember whether I did this one in full epoxy with a 2pack clear finish or epoxy inside with poly outside and finish coated.

This one had a single 10" fin box with a 10" dolphin fin set in HD PVC foam.
