I will be working with my brother on a interesting idea I.ve had which is mixing the thruster with the Apia Stinger the board will be 6.7’-7.2" and will be more Aipa Stinger than Thin narrow center below the mid thruster but will retain the 3 fins …the problem with the stinger was that it was too fast for the fin placement …way up in da 12" box and would slip and spin…with a 3 or even 5 fin system the drive should match the quickness…Iam getting tired of Fish this/That…Iam ready to creat something new/old again…something with the center point up 5" something 3 " thick something with beceled rails and sting wings 14 " or so up with a swallow tail or you guys call these Fish Tails ,Sic…Something with double barrel concaves and a step deck and a pulled in nose thats thick but has down rails…What I want to know is the FDins how do we do the fins…? Note to all: It helps if you’re out of trance BEFORE you post. Feel free to use periods and/or commas to mark pauses and separate your thoughts. Take your time and preview your posts before posting. It makes it easier for us to understand and thus respond to your comment/question. Not meaning to seem condescending, just trying to help us all communicate a little clearer. Right on! Let your imagination go wild. Saw a 9.0’ Ben Aipa shaped Stinger the other day. Round nose, swallow-tail, tri fin with FCS curved fins. Looked fun.
i also saw an Aipa stinger shape longboard the other day at Blackies. my question however: what exactly was the stinger shape meant to do, and what did it do? -steve
i also saw an Aipa stinger shape longboard the other day at Blackies. my > question however: what exactly was the stinger shape meant to do, and what > did it do?>>> -steve…The stinger was designed to combine 2 boards in one by giving the front 2/3rds of the board a longer type ride,eg. gun, longboard, funboard, with a tail section of a hi-performance shortboard. They turn quicker due to the stingers early releasing point, and ridden in a more forward position gives the rider a better forward plane.Herb.
Raymo, how about a bonzer set-up? Or a 2x1 with superchargers? If you set it up with a box and a bunch of Red-X or FCS plugs you’d be able to try all Kinds of fins. Scott
Why don’t you see more of the Bahne 6" boxes used for side fins anymore. Is it the weight, strength/stress issues or just out of vogue? Have been thinking of an egg type with single 10.5 and two side boxes for fin tuning and trials. The 6" side boxes would give you miles of fine tuning in trifin setup. Seems that Jim Phillips brought up an issue of the torsion from the fin vs. the shallow depth caused them to crack out.>>> Raymo, how about a bonzer set-up? Or a 2x1 with superchargers? Ray, Check out ScottW’s 6’10 High Desert on the home page. It looks like a pretty cool setup to me.

I don’t know if I told Scott W. this ,but NICE STICK!!!I like it > alot, enough to start on one for myself!Herb… Right on, Thanks guys!!! It is a FUN board and if you add sting wings it may not be to far from what Ray is thinking about. The side fins and chargers add drive and speed for sure, BUT it’s still loose/fast like a single fin. Scott. p.s. I’d sell it…
Thanks everyone! Scott. Tom , Sway…Herb, It’s just an idea but I believe as I save the $150.00 it will be reality. Scotts idea is strong and I’ll shoot this around with Herb. The Stinger blows the Fish away! And will ride in more critical situations tubes etc… but I don’t want a 1+2 fin set up I want either supercharge or thruster fin set up the supercharge seems better cuz this stinger will be lite, fast and will make all late drops and will hit the lip late and throwing! You know what Iam saying guys…Ben Aipa if your out there come on in and tell your old Rainbow Bridge Buddys what ya know cuz Iam ready and when Iam ready I mean it. It’s time for a change AGAIN… life Frank Zappa Said either Iam alittle behind or alittle ahead…but never where everyone elses at.

How about a set-up like your Q-4 fish. Do it with Red X and you can tune it for all kinds of performance, Scott
That’s not a bad idea,Scott!!!Red-x fins…hummmmm…Herb.
That’s not a bad idea,Scott!!!Red-x fins…hummmmm…Herb. Hey l.ah.s YA KNOW WHATS HE’S TALKIN BOUT NEVER HEARD OF THAT SYSTEM…i’LL CALL YA ASAP CUZ IAM MAKING DA BREAD FOR DA STICK.
Ray, go to the resourses page and find fins (building supplies?). There is a link to the RED X site. RED X fins are adjustible somthing like 3/4 of an inch for/aft so you can have a thruster with moveable fins! Lot’s of fin sizes to choose from too. Scott
Scott Thanks for the info…really! Wondering with a stinger to work we had to move the single fin way up. But with a tri or 5 fin set up where should I have the middle fin this would be the one for moving around might just use a long box and then use your idea for the other fins which would be even further up than the middle fin…so if the mid fin is up say 12" then the side fins which could be any size …this makin any sence…My bro can do anything he’s made me stingers in the past but this one will be a bit different with not so stingery but still incorperating the Lamar flows…That Ray in L.B.,
, my 6’10" has a 10-1/2" center fin box (Fins Unlimited) that’s 5" up from the tail. The side fins are 12" up from the tail. I placed them so I could use it as a 2x1 and something more like a thruster, with fin swap’s/placment changes. I first rode it with the center fin placed in the middle of the box and have since moved it to the back of the box. The fin is a 7." Tom@daum is running his bonzer trail fin (a 6-1/2"tall fin) at 5-1/2" up from the tail and the side fins at 10-1/4" and 15" up. I don’t know the size or shape of his side fins. Sooooo, were is this all going? Think about a long F.U. box at 5" to 6-1/2" up and RED X side fins set about 14" up for a tri fin and say 10-1/4" and 15" for a bonzer. How does that sound Dude? Keep me posted, Scott. ps, What is a lamar flow?
