Time offset?

Came across this when editing my profile. It currently is blank. Is it based on pacific Time? Greenwich time? What to do? The following is a test. Thanks

Test didn’t work.

Well, we know what did in the cat… and I’m no better.

If I’m reading it right, the base time is Pacific Time, offset for Daylight Saving. So, when you look in the ‘who wrote it’ box to the left of this message you’ll see a date and a time that this particular message was posted. Now, if you leave your offset at 0 or blank, you’ll get what time it was in Eureka California when I hit the Post Reply button.

If, as I just did, you set it at +2, then you see what time it was here on Cape Cod when I hit the button. Hawaii, - 4, Sydney might be 16?? Leastwise, playing with that seems to synch it with what I found at http://www.worldtimeserver.com/

Doc, Cal to Cape Cod…3hrs I think.

Base time must not be California (PDST) because it is 10:57ish here now and I have no offset info in my profile and expoect my post time to say 11:57ish.

Is this an error or is base time mountain time zone?

Good question, I dunno what it is.

Mountain Time it may be, 'cos the offset I mentioned previously works for me, or mebbe more likely PST without ( I think - that always messes me up) Daylight Savings Time figured in, just an offset from Greenwich/Zulu time. Not everybody uses Daylight Savings, worldwide, the UK has Double Summer Time … and especially the Southern Hemisphere right now, they’d be going the other way if anything.

That makes sense, as this setup is designed for a world-wide audience… I kinda like reverse engineering stuff like this.

I guess we’ll find out for sure next Fall.

doc…

I’ve noticed that the indicated time I post is actually one hour later than actual post. As far as I know, this has been going on for a long time and not related to daylight savings time. Other than that, I have no idea.

Aha… see, eventually, if ya prod me fairly hard, I smarten up a little and look around some. The hosting system for Swaylocks is headquartered in Missoula, Montana, so Mountain Time rather than Pacific time makes a helluva lot of sense.

hope that’s of use

doc…

without daylight saving in OUR summer time here in Perth , west australia , we are 15 hours ahead of you cali boys …12 hours ahead of florida.

In Sydney , where they have daylight saving in summer , it would make it that they are 12 hours ahead of you cali boys , and 9 hours ahead of flo bros …

…trivial but true …
