If you use bezier curves in vector drawing programs like Illustrator, Freehand, Corel Draw etc to create templates, it’s kind of hard to see onscreen, if you have any kinks or flat spots in your curves. Here’s a good trick for getting smooth curves. When you’ve got your shape close to what you want (step 1 in pic below) Scale the horizontal axis about 30% (step 2) This makes all the kinks more extreme and easier to spot. You then tweak your curves (step 3) in the shortened version and return the shape to it’s original legnth by scaling the horizontal axis 333% (step 4) http://www.surfingthemag.com/pulse/04_15_04_surf_park/
Hey, that’s a good tip. I haven’t designed any boards using draw programs, but I’ve done lots of lettering and custom fonts. The same technique could be useful there.
