Tips for shaping/glassing a version of Rustys Big Cat

Hey Everyone,

Does anyone have any tips for shaping and glassing a version of Rustys “Big Cat” board.

I have a feeling I will run into a few snags when shaping and glassing the cut-ins around the tail and the swallow tail.

I will be using an 8’0 US Blank for a 7’6 finish and glassing with RR epoxy.

I really like this board and could use all the help or advice anyone is willing to give.

Thank you

Think "Speed Egg".....step back and think about the shape without the wings and swallow tail...2+1 instead of 5...nice rounded pin tail...no drama shaping or glassing....nice smooth outline...nice smooth ride.....

Rusty is a Master.....I'm a hack................Stingray....I loved wings until I learned to glass.

Tairy....Did you miss this thread http://www2.swaylocks.com/forums/rusty-bigcat ? I think one of the key ingredients are the proportions of the shape; tail 1.75"-1.5" wider than nose, and wide-point just about at center (I put mine about inch behind center). Stingray has a very valid point about glassing the wings. Much easier to shape than to glass (my glasser rolls his eyes when I bring him one of these shapes), but a good learning opportunity if you can have an experienced glasser literally looking over your shoulder. I've also done this shape with a single bump and 2+1 setup. Makes for a great LB transition board with similar but quicker feel when compared to 2+1 HPLB.

Big Cat custom my local shaper just finished for me, based on Rusty’s design with a tad wider front area.  7’6 x 14.5 x 21.75 x 15.25 x 3.   5 fin so I could mix it up, quad for walled up, tri for peakier stuff.  Just got it, hope to get it wet later this week.

Big fan of speed eggs as well, maybe the best one quiver board, however wanted something with more punch and quicker release.
