so as some of you may remember i was the one asking about different materials other than rice paper for logos under the laminate, and i tried out tissue paper that i had in my basement, (we use it for gift wrapping/packaging etc.) and it turned out amazingly well. tested it last night, and laminated the top tonight, here are some pics. cleared very nicely when it was wetted out:
Good info there… It’s not everyday you see a surfboard sporting a fleur de lis, kinda makes me home-sick

thanks.
I wanted to stick to my roots with the fleur de lis
nice one. yep, tissue paper works fine. it’s all i’ve used for years.
couple of q’s-
brand of printer, laser or inkjet?
taped to a sheet of ‘regular’ paper or fed normally?
I’ve been using tissue paper as well, works well, just have to watch for bleeding when printing sometimes. (inkjet)
I am curious about roots and the fleur de lis. French? France? Or Canada?
I am in the province of Quebec in Canada myself, that’s why I ask.
Johan,
The French brought the F-d-L to Canada and then to Louisiana via the Acadians (or acadiens if you prefer). I’m from South Louisiana and the F-d-L has always been a symbol of home. Gotta represent! hahaha

Cool. Remember your roots!!
Hey Bud,
for the printing of my actual logo, i used an HP inkjet printer. taped the tissue paper to a 8.5 x 11 sheet of computer paper and fed it through.
the fleur de lis is because i am French. from my mother’s side. half my family is over in France. i’m in the states though.
hi cross,
nice effect…the “fleur de lys” is a french kingship symbol.
royal board! you must be the king at the line up!!
Howzit Bud,
I just printed laminates on ass-gasket paper (similar to tissue paper?), taped it to regular printer paper, and printed on an Epson R800 (ultrachrome ink), then ironed them flat and they worked well going clear with no bleeding in my test. I flipped the image and printed on back side so the squeegy didn’t run across the printed ink (as recommended in archives here). Took a peek at my #1 at the glassers today and lams looked clean…
One thing I noticed is that the lam paper needs to be taped tight and flat to the printer paper, if not the printer head ran across the folds (high spots) and smudged a bit.
Thanks to everyone here at sways for the resources and inspiration to make #1!!!
I have my boards glassed professionally (can’t do it at my place) and I take in logos on rice paper. One time I also gave them one I printed on regular photocopy paper to show how I wanted the real one placed. The laminator got mixed up and also included the photocopy paper one on the bottom of the board. If I didn’t point it out you would never know. It was a black logo on a clear board so that helped. The guy at the glass shop was amazed it worked but also mad at his laminator!
