I read a few threads back about Surf Source, and immediatley checked out the website. But i have one or two questions: 1)can i just walk in? or will i have to place an order and then walk in/pay shipping. 2)do they carry blanks in stock? thats the impression i get from their website, but i cant get a return email, and i’d like to be sure before a 4 hour drive.
i don’t think they have blanks anymore, but i’m not sure. clark has blanks in melbourne for poly boards. resin research has blanks for epoxyies also in melbourne.
Yep… you can walk in if you are in the area, they are down the road from Mayport. Also, they do still carry a supply of Clark blanks although not as complete as Clark in Melbourne.
i appreciate the help
i believe you can walk in and order. they just started carring eps blanks. don’t think they sell clark. here’s the number for clark if you need it… 321-259-1508
I walk in all the time…surf trip/resin run…no eps blanks…limited number of clark blanks…cash or credit card…take your business license or pay about 20% more for retail. Where are you located…may I can help.
Fluffy, don’t know where you are, but I am about 4 hr. from Jax too. You can order blanks from Clark in Melbourne and have them shipped for cheaper than the gas money to drive to Jax. Unless you are planning on hitting the beach. I paid $42 for a box on 4 to be shipped close to 500 miles. Not bad if you ask me.
Liz (fast talker) very nice and efficient. Brian seems to be on top of things. Did not have blanks I wanted in stock. Had them sent straight from Clark…5 days, $42.00…for four in a box. (to Texas…EEEHA!) They are delivered via heavy freight to the door. Packing is MINIMAL! All arrived safely though. Yes you must send or provide dealer license or pay retail (20% more) I paid with business credit card and transaction was smooth. Prices are reasonable and a bit less than Foam EZ. All items arrived ahead of Fiberglass Supply order that had been placed two days earlier…Turnaround time was great. Will do business again. MLC
ed, how do i get in touch with the Clark factory in Melbourne? 42 dollars doesnt seem that bad, last time i looked at them, the pricing was outrageous. i think Harry might help me out, but i dont want to ask too much of him. no business liscence, but oh well.
Hey Fluff, sorry for not responding sooner. I don’t have the number for the Clark warehouse in Melbourne, but you could call information and get it or someone here could give it to you. They are super nice and easy to work with. You have to pay in advance to get the order but so what huh, no mark up on the blanks as far as I could tell. Surf Source will charge a little more for the same blank. Where are you located? I am in Georgia if you are close enough maybe we could go in on an order and split the shipping. I am ready for a couple more blanks myself. Let me know. ed
It seems we’re all cursed. I’m also located in GA right now, as is Harry. Splitting the shipping cost would be great, i’m looking for two blanks, i’ve heard they can pack four to a box, so is this too many? Just about anywhere in GA is game for me, i’m planning a run for supplies to any place that has them the weekend of the 18th. Still havent heard from Harry, but waiting. Contact me here, or at . thanks;
The number to Clark Melbourne is 321-253-3626.
…another shaper from Georgia here (via Fla.) … just built a 10 x 12 shaping / glassing shed in backyard. Anyone tried to bring blanks back w/ soft racks on top of car (in box)? Sounds scary what do you think? Will share shipping expense with others in the future, just let me know. Also, where can I get glassing supplies near Clarks in Melb.? Been reading Swaylocks for awhile, finally decided to throw my two cents in, you guys have taught (and re - taught) me a lot! Haven’t shaped since the 70’s, and I’ve got the itch again … see you in the water (right across the street from Natural Art can get good)! Thanks again guys, I’ll post pics down the road … Bruce Ciero
Close to Clark in Melbourne: Fiberglass Florida, Inc. Paint Street Rockledge, FL 32955 (321) 639-3046 You can also check out Surf Source in Jax for both resin and blanks I am in Fernandina Beach FL and usually head down to Clark in Melbourne once a month for a blanks. If it helps any of you GA folks out I usually have room in the back of the truck for one or two more blanks. Fernandina Beach is a lot closer to GA if you just want to pick it up and not worry about trying to have it shipped. Clark charges shipping by the weight. I think it is around $35 and that can get you around four blanks. But if they send to a residence there is an additional $50 charge. Gets expensive for one or two blanks!
thank you mike and bruce for your suggestions and offers to help. I apologize, it seems i’m saying “thank you’s” more than I am giving helpful info… oh well… my day will come. As of now, I believe me and ed are going in as cohorts and splitting shipping costs, as we are located close to one another, but I’m very gratefull for a plan B. Feeling lucky to have found Swaylocks… great sight, great people. thanks again;
Mike - thanks for the tip about the glassing supplies. I usually hit Brevard 3 or 4 times a year to surf my old stomping grounds, so the drive is no biggie. Eventually I’ll be back home FOR GOOD … but 'til then, thanks for the blank pick up offer too, I’ve never surfed Fenandina either, so there’s two good reasons! By the way, the Sid Madden blank looks tempting for what I’m after (9’6" Bing Lightweight), ever shaped one? Anyone else? Thanks again Mike. Bruce
No problem Fluffy, by the way, did you read my question to Mike about the Sid Madden blank? As I said, I’m going for a Bing lightweight thing, full hips, thinnish nose, something that will really turn easy. My O’Hare does that now, but I want to start making my own … Nice to see some other Ga. surfer/shapers out there … Bruce
Bruce, No problem on the info. I have not tried that blank @ 4" thick it tended to be a little more than I wanted to mow through for any of the longboards I have shaped. Where in Brevard was your old stomping grounds? I grew up in Titusville surfing mostly Playalinda but certainly scoured the area for where ever I could find a wave. I have been in FB since '96 and althought it does not seem as consistant as Central FL it gets its share of surf. Cheers Mike
hey Mike - I surfed everywhere from the boardwalk in front of Shagg’s to what we called “poles” @ Patrick AFB. They used to have a barrier to keep people away from the base up until the 70’s I think … anywhere near Patrick was always my favorite (the pier @ Patrick was good until a hurricane blew it down). Too crazy @ Sebastian although we used to hit Spanish House. Worked in Ft. Pierce for a long time and used to LOVE 1st peak @ the Jetties. To this day, that’s my favorite right in Fla, and it took a LONG time to fit in with the locals. On the right swell that wave would bowl in front of you like you wouldn’t believe! We also surfed the nuclear power plant @ Hutchison island a lot, they put up and tore down two steel trestles, and for a couple of years we had the spot practically to ourselves. Once the sand bar formed on each side of the trestles it was a great wave! Of course when they tore it down the sand left, but we were on it while it lasted! Surfed Playalinda once and caught it about chest high, I could tell the place was great! Anyway this all took place from the mid 60s until the mid 80’s, I’m landlocked now, but hit it 2 or 3 times a year. In fact I leave tomorrow to catch some waves and pick up some blanks,resin, etc. Jeez, I forgot the Madden blank is 4" thick! Maybe I’ll give it some more thought! Talk to you soon … Bruce
