to Nocean !

woohoo !!

  it's looking nice , Noe !

is that wood inlay , or a LIGHTER coloured brown linen , that you've used there , on the deck ?

 also ...

do you have a LARGER shot of the bottom and plugs , please ?

  well, MY update is ...

I had a chance to foil your BIG fins today . Finally the neighbours went out [don't  homebodies annoy you , when you've got 'stuff'  to do !  .... especially NOSY ones!]

so , I guess if you like I can send THEM to you in the next week . [the fins , that is ...I'm guessing you wouldn't want nosy stay-at-home neighbours either , eh ?!]

  Next ...

I still need to template the two other small panels for the little 'twinzer front sideys' . When I find where I've put the templates , first , that is . [ I think george greenough would be proud of my messy boards and fins everywhere flat , from what I've heard ...but I need to clean it up and organise stuff , so I  can template 2 to 4 little sideys , cut them out , foil them , and send them]

...so sorry it is dragging on , eh , mate ?!  [...it seems to be almost a spring , into summer , project ...]

I just hope that it doesn't drag on into being a "christmas present " for you .... because , I don't know about you guys there , but HERE it goes sooooo flaaaat , for MONTHS [!] , that I wouldn't get a chance to properly test ANY new fins !!

anyway ,

here's a couple of shots  of one of the fins , so far ...

both of them now need to be fin[e] tuned ... hand sanded , down through the grades . [ At least I can do that , quietly , in my flat , while people are home on the weekend .]

As requested , I have left the slot / tab[s] untouched , and uncut . The good news is , they are pretty much the spot-on thickness for f.c.s.  already   ...yewwwww !  I got LUCKY , this time !!

   cheers Noe !

    ben

Hi Ben, I have used some bamboo veneer to strengthen the tail area, will do some with a lighter linen also as its easier to glass etc.

Fins look Great!, would be fine as a christmas present, best time of the year for waves here is from jan through to march I reckon so all good for testing new fins and boards:)

Heres a closer pic of the bottom, I had the drill drift off center on the center plugs:( but worked out ok in the end…

thanks Noe !!

the bamboo looks really nice !  did you have to vacuum bag it on there ?

Well...

hopefully this week , now that I have found the twinzer templates , and have templated [two] small panels with them , I will try to cut them out and , neighbours permitting , hopefully have an opportunity to foil them at some stage ?

I have the ones to be double foiled in that template , and I'll do a single foiled version , for my board , in a slightly smaller version of it too.

I will also template my remaining brown linen inlay panel with the smaller slightly rakier version of your big fins , so then I will have a smaller version of your quad set to play with in the walden [5 finner] for summer .

I figure if I put ONE tab  on my little 'twinzers' , then I can have enough 'overhang' at the rear of the plug , to allow a more twinzer like placement of the fins , as I , too, want to experience having the fins closer together . Especially since the walden side plugs on his 'CD4' model [it really is a FIVE fin setup , by the way !]  are sooo far FORWARD , for some reason ??  It should be fun trying the setup out in small waves on a board with deep chine rails and double concave ...it will only need to be 'knee high' [preferably bigger though !] for the fins to get a test . Occassionally on "flat" days here , a couple of random chest high waves emerge , if I wait patiently . People don't realise that , fortunately ....and this , time of year at least , we are having a few glassy hours , between fronts. Always nice to test stuff out in smooth conditions !!

       cheers Noe !

here's a hemp small sidey , also ....which will be single-foiled ....

BLOG5670.jpg

and as I mentioned previously , Noe ...

I have PLENTY of smaller one-tabbers to play around with , if you want to try them ....

I'm excited about these boards of yours , and I hope you get to try out a whole HEAP of different setups in them , in good waves , as this makes it a swaylocks collaboration and gets me STOKED !!  I hope you can share the board[s] and fins with other kiwis , perhaps at a sways kiwi get together , if you ever have one ?

cheers  Noe !

 ben

... it's just a bit of a pity we are so many thousand miles apart , as I would LOVE to see / photograph / film you guys in action on these setups !

Hi Ben, Wow the sanded twin is looking really nice!
Yeah pretty cool doing a colab with this stuff, think there is a Kiwi sways meet next year so will share the board around if I make it down there…
Ill take plenty pics when I test them out anyways…
yip good idea to put one tab on the small fins as it allows for more movement between plugs, id be interested to see how you set your fins out compared to the Twinzer setup ill do, ok catch ya later

thanks Noe !

that last twinzer will be around 2 1/4" deep and 2-2 1/2" base , once the single tab has been cut into it . I will make a matching one from the offcut material from the twinnies , at some stage in the hopefully near future .

It will be fun to play around with smaller and bigger front and back fins , and see the effects of different sizes .....

  cheers

  ben

edited double post , so I have replaced it ...

.....with a bonus shark in tube shot from ? yesterday ? down south here

(no wonder the lineups there have been reported as empty lately , eh ?! )

abigtubedshark.jpg

[it looks nice as a screensaver ...the last thing I've looked at prior to hitting the sack now , so as to be on it for the 5am dawno tomorrow  [ that's 'dawn patrol' ,  in ozzie lingo]

   cheers !

  ben

[ edit ... I was told that the above shark photo was taken at rotto ... not far from where the last fatality occurred , recently.]

  on a brighter note , a 'twinzer' update ...

Noe , here's a 'glo' panel I templated with your twinnies , so as to have a 'glo  twinzer' set for myself, to try out  next ....

BLOG5939.jpg

I 'may' have to put a couple of extra plugs in the Walden , as I've been enjoying riding that again , lately [been using the webber 'G-CRV' [curved] fins , thruster set up , at the moment ...feels good , and goes well !!]

 cheers !

  ben

Hi Ben, Glo Twins look good!

Thats a nice wave above but I can see why no ones out!

Anyway cheers for the update, catch ya later…

Hi Ben, finished the 5 fin board today, hows the fins coming along?

Hope your getting waves over there its been onshore here for about 3 weeks!!!

hiya Noe !

thanks heaps for the update ..... your board looks great ,  mate !

I just got a chance to see this today [6th january in west oz] , as my computer died about five or so weeks ago [I'm typing this at a library ]

Well , I  have been testing all the different fins I made for your twinzer [and have left the huuuge fabric inlay ones untabbed so far , as per your request ]. I HAVE  ridden a 'glo' pair of the same template , however , along with a few [single-foiled] small twinzer front sideys...

Actually , it's been fun not being "computerised"  for a while , as I have had the chance to surf more , get fins done , take photos , work , and , generally , enjoy the 'time off' !!

So , mate ,  I  hope you [and everyone else here] has had a surf-filled , fun , and safe new year ....

  cheers !

hi Noe !

[I NOW  have a  computer ?!!  ....thanks surf buddy Dave !!]

so , time for a six week [or thereabouts ] update !

Speaking of the 'glo' version of your huuuuge twinnies ...

I've surfed these a fair few times now , over the last [probably] five weeks , sometimes with your 'nubster' template in the rear thruster plug. They had hold and drive , and PLENTY of  speed ... they sure felt nice !!

waldensetsoffinssetups3.jpg

I've mainly tried them out in the Walden pictured , as that is the only five plugged board I have , at present . Unfortunately the plugs are a LOT further up [and further apart] than your twinzer setup . I have also put the twinnys in the BACK plugs , with AND without the 'nubster' trailer....

...other setups have been tried , too....[but I may start a separate thread , as they have been on various boards , and , again , mainly with the three plugs setups ]

  cheers !

  ben

waldensetups57.jpg

waldensetups124.jpg

 hi again Noe !

Well , THIS is the closest to a 'twinzer'-type  spacing  that I have tried so far , on the Walden ... these are all 'glo' ones , by the way  ...

waldensetsoffinssetups6.jpg

 cheers mate !

   ben

Fins look great, love the shot of them with the light behind!

Heres some setups possible on the twinzer, pretty versatile

Cheques in the mail:)

cheers Noe ,

great to hear from you , and see some of your fin setups !

how do you like the 'larry mabile twinzer' setup , does it feel good ? are they white pigmented fibreglass, or ....polycarbonate ones ???!!

By the way ...

here are a couple of one-tabbers , done in your brown fabric [inlay] ...they bring the fins closer together , still ...

 boardsandfins25.jpg

Noe , are you getting nice waves yet ?  [offshores now , mate ? I HOPE so !]

 cheers !

  ben

well, september 24th 2011 , to now 23rd janary 2012 ??!!

quite some time has elapsed , but the good news is ...

....the fins were posted today , and the kid at the counter reckoned  " 3 to 10 working days"  to get to sunny old Auckland , so ....

keep watching the mail box , over this week and next

  cheers Noe !!

  ben

 [ p.s. -  today , the N.Z. 50 bucks fetched a whopping  $ 36.28c aus , by the way !]]

Sweet ben, thats cool, looking forward to my package!

I havnt really had a good go on the Larry mabile ones above. They felt pretty smooth and fast transitioning as a Twinzer set up but really need to try them on a familiar board as theres too many variables goin on with th short board etc…

will post some pics and ill try to get some ride pics too would be cool…

Ok cheers again( check your pms)

small slop .  kneeboarded for a change , as I know how much [photog] Marty LOVES kneelos and boogers haha [ ie: NOT !!]

....needless to say , he hasn't taken many photos of me SINCE ! [even though I made it to my feet on some waves , during subsequent surfs ?  [Next , I just need to learn how to go ACROSS the face , maybe , eh ?!]

" halfway to my feet , take1"  [ the dunny squat style 'manouevre']

 " halfway to my feet ,  take 2 "

.... 'the can can' [aka the coxic slam / enema manouevre] .... THIS one is close to becoming my current personal favourite...nearly as impressive as my mate 'Hammo's 'rocket launcher / man fired out of cannon circus trick' manouevre ?!

[...insert circus music here ]
