To the lurkers...

Hey guys/gals,

Why don’t you people come out from hiding and give some input to these threads?

It is completly socially acceptable to be a member of the Swaylockian community, there’s no need to hide as a “Guest”.

So come out of the closet and buy a bunch of Swaylocks goods from the Swag shop.

Post new threads, instead of relying on others.

Stand up and shout, “I am a Swaylockian, and I am proud to be one!”.

I would reply more but I’m not a shaper. More of a surfer who’s very interested in design and possibly one day a future backyard shaper. Just need to get the yard.

HEY! lurking is Fun! there is a place in the world for lurkers----and along the way we all get to learn stuff that may in time serve a valid function in our surfing…in making my 9’ wooden replica board i learned how to template it, coat it and actually ride the darn thing

Lurk ON!

O, and a happy new year to all…

sure. and get beaten on if you have an opinion differing fom the guru’s. which is why the only posts i make any more are minimal factual responses to questions from beginners about elementary work with polyurethane blanks/resin.

Hey I’ve only helped my friend make one surfboard, but i think of myself as an expert! My mom lets me use her computer so I have plenty of time to post replies, and do lot’s of research. My dad has tons of 1lb EPS so i’m down with that…word! I was thinking my first board should be a 1 lb EPS 3’2" Fish shape. Fish shape because there easier to shape…right?, I’m thinking 3’2" because i’m trying to do the old school thing and I need a bigger board for more square hollow beach break type waves like here in the N.J. winter. Does any one know where I can buy those wooden keel fins?

I’ve seen a few hear and there, but they are usually pretty expensive. I prefer just to foil my own. There is plenty of information in the archives regarding how to foil a fin, and there are many, many fin templates; especially for singles.

*I’m not saying Guest are bad, no, they are just as important to Sways as anyone. But it would be nice to have more topics/posts/new and old ideas.

Cheers,

Austin

Merry day after Christmas!

resinhead, I think you can get plywood for the keel fins at Home depot. I think they might have a DIY book on fins by the cash register. Their epoxy is pretty good too, except it only comes in little tubes and it goes off in like 5 min.

I’ve seen some keel fin pictures, but I 'm not real sure about fin placement. It may say in the book.

good luck and have fun making your first board

Resinhead, my Home Depot doesn’t have any EPS but they do have ESP. So, its like, I walk in there just thinking about making a surfboard and they can help me out. Besides, who needs Clark foam when polyurethane, like, comes in all these little cans. Just borrow a friend’s canoe and fill it up with the foam from the cans and pop it out - a blank!

That fiberglassing junk is totally overrated too. You can use any kind of cloth you want and any paint that dries hard will stick it all together. And you can pick up fins at HD too, in the fin section which is just behind the aileron section.

This is terrible. Why would anyone want to kill a fin? It’s horrible. Just think of all the suffering you are causing. Mike

yeah, man! Its not polite to kill fins! Didnt your mommy teach you anything !? ;-))
