tom curran? and 7S boards from the orient?

Is this one of the infamous made in china/thailand boards? Not familiar with the logo, saw one at my local surfshop. No made in china labels on the board but the price was extremely cheap so I assumed so. Quality of shape and glass was better than most backyard boards. Shape wasn’t very good but the glass wasn’t bad. I guess you get what you pay for, almost…

well, they spelled Tom AND Tim’s names wrong for starters , so…

lol, You mean they got the Tom correct but the Curran should be Curren. I guess they are a little behind when it comes to surf history.

The “Seven” label boards are made in Thailand at the Cobra factory for Global Surf Industries. Probably done on their 3dm machine.

they spelled fisque wrong too,and sukur…but then thats why you cant believe everything you read in the papers, they are crumby spellers … ambrose… if only the proofe readers weren’t speed readers…tum curdle,ha!

who did the make - up for the photo shoot?

fabulous. …ambrose… gotta get me one o’ them fish I’m feelin downright trendy, older ,outa shape and ready to rip …

That a swallow tail funboard popout, not a fish!

Ambrose, I think the second photographer’s assistant stepped in for the make-up artiste. In doing so he got the light meter reading all wrong.

There was an article in Australian surfing like board buyers guide about the same board Tom Carrol rode it and liked it . Still a popout.

Other than the fact that Tom Curren once road a board that could sort of be considered a “fish”, what does this story or those boards have to do with him? It doesn’t seem he’s connected to these boards in any manner.

Yeah, TC was all over that board in the DVD ASL ‘199’.

He ripped and the board looked really nice even though its a popout it had great glassing and pinlines too.

Looks like a fun shortboard anyway!

TC Loved it though.

I just watched it again.

Tommie rode a 5’9" 20" 2 1/2" double wing swallow tail with single to double concave and very thin ‘step’ rails.

It seemed to go well in hollow waves but with the thin rails it would be harder to do cutties etc.

Interesting board indeed, I’m quite intreged.

Hell will be frozen…

post on anoter message board right now about someone whose new seven superfish has numerous stress marks in the glass near the tail after only 3 or 4 sessions…beware…

We get things a little more confused over here as there are these “7S” surfboards that are popouts from china and there is also seven surfboards which are custom shaped by Brian out of Oregon. The only difference (other then quality) is the ones made locally will never show up in white and I don’t think he’s ever put a fin system on a single board. straight glass. Some of his resin work is amazing. Some trully stunning boards. The ones he has on his site don’t do justice to some that I’ve seen in person. Beautiful sunset images all done with resin tints. amazaing stuff.

They look great…

Great Tints…How do they ride???

go kid go

…ambrose…

tuel lives…

i have seen a couple of those fish and i really like the step rail they have. nice idea.

I bought a 6’3" Seven Superfish when in Oz last year - the guy in the shop said it was a local shaper, saw me coming a mile off! I’d never heard of them before so how was I to know!? However, it was in a sale and was cheaper than some of the used boards (which was what I had intended to buy to see me through my trip).

Anyways I have to say the board is one of the best I’ve ever owned (sorry!) - it catches everything and is as fast as hell, roundhouse cutties are especially sweet and things just got better when I stuck a set of MR twins and a trailer on it. As for durability been surfing her for almost a year now and she’s still going strong.

Well in an attempt to atone for my sins I decided to go for a more “full on” fish for which I dutifully went to my local shaper and am now in love with my 5’8" fish (which is still super !).

BTW I later found out that the super fish shape was licensed from an Oz shaper and was a tried and tested vehicle, so it’s no pig designed by someone who’s never seen the sea!

I had the same problem about cracks on the tail…

i think the glass is shit.

Yes GSI has done a global licensing deal with Gary Loveridge of Wizstix Surfboards on the Central Coast in NSW. Gary is very happy with the deal and has been reveiving royalties since last year. The board goes really well and is quite different to look at which helps it sell well at retail.

The design has a step deck which gives it a great advantage over the retro type fishes. The large volume and highly tuned rails couple with the super flat rocker and full length concave amke this board one of the fastest you’ll ever ride. It also paddles so quickly you find yourself catching many more waves than normal.
