shaped by Matt Moore, apparently…
thats an awesome pic, i wish i could do snapes half as good as that one.
Chipfish,
It absolutely astounds me to see the variety of pictures you have collected. You are one incredible photo slut. And I mean that in a good way.
Do you have any shots of the Campbell Bros 3 fin bonzer? I live in Ventura so I see plenty of Malcolm’s 5 fin boards but it’s very rare to see a 3 fin. I also realize that Mike Eaton has pretty much taken over that design, but I would still like to see the original.
Thanks,
Sr Pato
Nice Photo…
Bloody Tom Curren…
Josh.
"PHOTO SLUT " = photographer, right ?
Yes, yes I do…
There’s a guy here in Oz called Mick Mock…I’d like to meet him one day. I believe his magazine collection (and other surfboards and accessories) from the past is mind boggling…
Yes, I have shots of Russell Short, and ads for bonzers from the '70s, but from now on, I’m not going to / don’t want to be too loose with sharing myself around with everybody…especially after THAT comment…hehe [sorta]…
'chip'
Chip,
Sorry about the comment, just mindless banter. Didn’t mean anything by it and I hope I didn’t offend.
I do appreciate the effort you put into the photo collections and they’re beautiful to see. I’ll keep my eyes open for any shots that may appear.
Thanks,
Sr Pato
Here are some tris from surfermag.com thanks to TFAD
Daddio, that’s GREAT, mate …got any more ?! Thanks for that !
Your mag collection pre-dates mine by three or four years…exactly the time it seems they started going ‘off the radar’ in terms of media coverage…here in Australia at least.
Only Richo, P.T. , and a small handful even rode [or, at least got photographed riding] the three fin bonzers in our ‘Surfing World’ and ‘Tracks’ mags of the day…
The only Aussie FOOTAGE I’ve seen of bonzers is of Paul Nielson at Burleigh in ‘On Any Morning’ [a 1974 aussie surf flick]…which , incidentally has some good footage of Michael Peterson and others at big Fairy Bower, for the first Coca Cola Surfabout contest , Josh !
.... not a slut " chip"
He’s STILL the greatest!! At ~40 years old he’s surfing more progressively than most people out there.
Tom Curren For President!
LESider & Daddio,
Thanks for the pics and articles. Very nice. I’m debating on whether I should shape a tri fin Bonzer or quad fish next. Already have a 6’9"A in the racks. Hmmmmmm…
Sr Pato
SrPato, please make a three fin bonzer…I’d like to hear how it goes because…
well, my 5’8 orange stubbie single fin could definately be a goer for a conversion a year or so down the track…
I’ll see if I can dig out the very good photo ‘Surfer’ ran of the original for you [C 1975?]…I think it’s in the ‘Surfer’ website archive SOMEWHERE…just give me some time.
Oh. I just remembered…there is also an issue of our 'pacific longboarder ’ mag I have floating around here somewhere, which has a shot which will give you the concaves picture…is that the sort of thing you want to see ? I sent it to ‘Shwuz’ as well, from memory…
cheers mate !
ben
which , incidentally has some good footage of MICHAEL PETERSONand others at BIG FAIRY BOWER, for the first Coca Cola Surfabout contest , Josh !
HOLY CRAP!!! That alone has made me want to go buy this film! MP at Fairy Bower would be orsome Ive never seen anyone riding a Single Fin at fairy bower (besides me & a few other Manly crew) and Its such a good wave…Epic…
Josh.
Its such a good wave…Epic…
Josh.
Proof!
However, not wanting to hyjack the thread: I find it easy to go vertical on my forhand but on my backhand its more of a carving thing when im on a single fin??? anyone, know why??? I dont have this trouble on a thruster or quad…
Josh.
Chipfish! lovely pic…did you take it? by the way how are the hard rails working?
hi Silverback !
no, it was a surfing life photo from the mid 1990s…I think either Bill Morris or Ted Grambeau, from memory.
[Hard rails on WHICH board, by the way ?]. okay, catchya later…[Curren is one of my heroes…single fins are one of my favourites…so, the combo was too good to pass up !]
isn’t that board a Hamish?
Hey Chip.
I belive you can see Curren riding that single fin in Litmus.
