Everyone used to crank it in the corner about 'THE CUTBACK' photo , of his brother Michael , but Tom ?
.....HE has a good cutback , too !
And he makes boards , of course . [Anyone remember the 'fireball fish' , that Curren rode in big Indo waves , in the Rip Curl VIDEO [yep , video?!] , all those years ago ? That board was apparently a Tom Peterson creation]
here's a 1970s photo by Dan Merkel [sorry , used without permission] , from a 1970s ['Surfing' mag?] poster book ?....
.... yes , Tom has a good cutback ! [ ...just check out how THICK that board is !]
'huie' , 'feral dave' , other longtime Queenslanders ...
have you by any chance got any Tom stories , or photos , to add , please ?
Fins I recall seeing that photo in way back in yeaster years. very impresive looking full buried rail cutback. hard to do as it was so easy to burie to deep and stall. My good friend Pat Flecky had those turns wired.
if anyone has photos of Tom Peterson shapes they would be good to see here.
" if anyone has photos of Tom Peterson shapes they would be good to see here."
yes , PLEASE ! [and more of him SURFING , too, please ?]
.... John Harris , do you have any , please , mate ?!
Artz ... was Pat Flecky , Dan's brother ? I remember shots of him , on two coloured boards a la our own M.R.....one side of the stringer one colour , the side next to it , another ... [ damn , I need a scanner working !]
Dan was Pats younger Brother. Pat was also a really good surfer. He rode for Hanson boards in late 1960's early 70's had a few pics in Magazines But concentrated on shaping. When I met Pat he was working at Sunset Surfboards in Encinitas CA. Encinitas in the 1970's was a hotbed of great boards. Bill Caster was working just south of there Channin was up on the Hill Sunset, Hanson, Donald Takayama was down in Solana Beach doing SNI.
Pretty much the one board id buy right now if i could get one over here:) check out cory graham surfboards for more pictures of these, look so good!!..https://instagram.com/coreygrahamshapes/
That’s a really unusual channel design. Are the rear ends of the channels raised above the surface that is behind them? hard to tell from shadows and angle of view.
a good friend, surfer and board builder that i know spent time living with mike and tom some time during the 70’s when mike was THE man. said it was terrifying when mike would come home. basically he and tommy would kinda hide. in the film “in search of michael peterson” tommy makes a reference to this… all that energy, competetivness, etc… rolling in ready to unload…
