Toxictech surfboards

I know a bit about the construction of the Surftech boards but i was told the worse part is the heating of the PVC foam that its hi in “Toxic VOCs” Plus the one thing they don’t talk about is the Color and Clear Coat thats used… its even worse then the PVC stage??.. I want the dirt on it… Who knows http://surfnwsc.com

I know a bit about the construction of the Surftech boards but i was told > the worse part is the heating of the PVC foam that its hi in “Toxic > VOCs” Unless you burn the PVC foam I really doubt it releases that much VOCs. But why would they heat it in the first place? The same foams are used in vacuum boardbuilding without any heating, except for the postcure stage. Bdw. regular polyester resin releases plenty styrene. Have a look at http://surfing.rdx.net/Building/risks.html rather enlightening. Here’s a datasheet for PVC http://www.uiowa.edu/~chemsafe/MSDS/PVC.html>>> Plus the one thing they don’t talk about is the Color and Clear Coat thats > used… its even worse then the PVC stage??.. I bought a boat lacquer when doing the gloss on my epoxy longboard. The health warning basically said don’t plan to get any kids for a long time after using this product. Still, that might not be it. There might just not be anything to talk about. Color might be an opague resin, clear coat might be a safer laquer, acrylic spray, polyester or polyurethane based. Propably not the things you want to breath on a daily basis, but no worse then ‘regular’ surfboard building. I believe that the shapers will survieve from building a better, custom product as apposed to the mass produced modern pop outs. The soul of surfing is in the heart of the surfer and not in the materials in the board he or she chooses to ride. regards, Håvard
