Traction pad: making your own?

I did a search on traction pads and read alot of the threads. Alot of mention to EVA foam, but not alot of where to buy it idea’s. Nor which products really seam to work well.

I found one that is made by Hyperfoam. Hyperfoam is the same company that makes Xtrack traction pads. From my use Xtrack has be the #1 hands down winner for staying on and not ripping to shreds as the waves bounce my skimboards up the beach.

Anyway here’s the link: http://boatbuildercentral.com/help/SeaDek.htm I used this on my latest skimboard. It has be on there for 8 months now and no signs of it comming up. It a great product. So, good I’m gonna deck all my surfboards with it. That is when I start making my own.

Check the pic of my custom traction. Fat center pieces 5mm and skinny pieces 3mm for that arch bar feel.

Thanks for that link. That embossed foam is just what I have been looking for to use on my paddleboard. Good prices, too.

Hola,

EVA is easy to find at camping or sports stores. Go there and ask for YOGA mATS or CAMPING MATS. They use to be 50cm x 200cm x 1cm sheets. Cheap.

…EVA sucks too much water…check it after you surf…and dont have the best traction, its more like a cushion thing…if you still go for this material, go for the thinner one…

I know nothing about that yoga mat stuff, but the product I listed does not soak up much water at all or not at all. I have used Xtrack for full decking on all of my skimboards, besides the one in the pics.

I really beg to differ about the traction of Xtrack or SeaDeck. I find it far better than wax in every way. I must say I haven’t cross stepped on a Lb with it yet, but I would have to think it will out perform it then also.

O-yeah you guys suck! Not a single word or that traction I put on that board. That stuff came in a sheet and I hand cut every single piece. I’ll pat my self on the back and say,“good job, man” HAHAHAHAHA

Allow me to help you… great job!!!
