Traction Pad Placement?

Whats the best place for a traction pad on a thruster?.. i had one on my fish but put it too far forward, then took it off and put it too far back. where do you put yours?

thanks!

Traction pads or thrusters? LOL.

Conventional wisdom on pads is about 1-2 inches forward of the leash plug, centered over the rear fins.

If you know where it was too far forward and too far back, sounds like somewhere right in between would be the spot.

If I put a tailpad on a board, usually want it where it will be most likely to help prevent my back foot from slipping off during hard turns. On a thruster, I want the kick to cup my foot just over/slightly behind the trailing fin. hth

I just put one on a modern quad fish to help me get my feet a bit further back over the fins, as i seem to stand too far forward ( worked great on my keel fish, but not on the quad fish! ), and i put it roughly 1-2" from the leash plug.

The traction pad I buy(xtrax hobgood pads are the schznit) has a little indentation in the wedge on the back edge for the leash loop. Basically on a small wave board as far back as it can go, on my board it is 2 inches from the tail. On a step up I would move it up 3/4-1". If it is for a fish, that butt crack makes things weird, I would put it pretty far back. during hard turns you want your back foot directly over the back fin.

thanks for all the responses!

put it where ya feet go...or should go if ya need to move ya foot to be in better position on the board...but not many people ever change where they stand on a board, best to design the board around how you surf rather than try to force a change, after all you wanna feel comfortable and just want the board to suit...something alot more surfers should consider...and shapers...thats why more info should be give to shapers when ordering a board...best way is for a shaper to see how you surf, pics , footage or the best is in real life...off track here, sorry, but stick the tail pad where ya feet go.....
