Traveling with my quiver

im going to panama this august for the month. I have a few boards i would like to bring, both long and short. unfortunately i am flying on continental because my ticket was free as long as i used them. their board policy says that there is a two board maximum. do they actually check? think i will get away with bringing three boards? are they really going to open my board bag and count the boards im bringing. I know the bag does get opened by the people inspecting for anything incriminating they can find but i do not think they have anything to do with the ticketing process.

Having dealt with Continental to Panama and having worked a couple of months in a camp in Panama…beware of baggage embargoes, lost boards and generic aggravation. Your boards may finally show up …the day you leave.

good luck

doc…

I just got back from Costa Rica and on the flight out of Miami they not only opened my board bag but they basically took everything (including the three boards that were in it) out of it, gave it a once over and then repacked it. They did this with all the board bags from what I could see. I was flying on Lacsa, which I think is a lot less strict than Continental, but I’m pretty sure the bag check was an airport security policy rather than Lacsa’s. Anyway, I would go there expecting that you won’t be able to get anything past the airline without them knowing about it. But I don’t think that means you shouldn’t try to take three boards with you - as long as you have somewhere to put the third one (your car?) if the baggage check denies you.

Jeff

i am going down there to work at morro negrito surf camp. is that where you worked? what was it like?

I’ve heard really bad things about that Morro Negrito place. Some friends of mine went there and were very disapointed with the accomidations. They said the waves were decent though. Let me know how it goes though, I’d like to hear more about it.

Anyone else been there?

I havn’t been there but was just looking at the website and hoping to plan a trip there soon. It seemed like a good think for a good price and seeing as I am only 15 that is a good combo. But after hearing that I will definately look into it more. Please let me know what you find out about it.

I went there. The whole process of getting to the camp is kind of half assed(Two guys that showed up while I was there were left waiting at the bus stop in the middle of know where for 2 hours). Once I got to the camp everything, other than the fact it was flat most of the time, was ok. Even when there were waves the breaks are all very tide dependent and you have to take a boat to every single one of them(it never got big enough for the reef out front to break while i was there). I have to say my stay probablly would have really sucked if the two guides weren’t as cool as they were. The lady who runs the place didn’t say a word to me the whole time. I hadn’t seen this site before I went but it seems like a lot of people have had a bad time there:

i have spent many hours researching all of the breaks and talking to people and i know a lot about this place. i dont need information on the camp, i need information on traveling with board bags through continental.

Sorry Poser, I have never traveled on continental with my boards, I had a friend who went on a trip flying withe them, they lost his board, luckily he had a friend there so he used his boards. About a week and a half AFTER he got back they contacted him at his house and said they had his boards. He swears that he will never fly w/ them again. Sorry if that scares you. I wouldn’t worry about it I know someone who works there, (neighbor down the road), he said that he has only heard of that happening very rarely. As far as taking more than two boards, I would do like jeff said and take more, and if they don’t let you, put em in your car or let whoever dropped you off take em home. Good luck with it.

Sorry Poser,

When you asked “is that where you worked? what was it like?” I thought you wanted more info on the camp it’s self. I’m glad you did your research.
