Tricky board repair

i need my thruster back and cant afford a new one right now so im trying to repair my busted one. a strip of glass about 3" wide has been peeled off the bottom right down the stringer the whole way from nose to tail. the glass peeled of really clean and didnt take off any foam when it came up, or atleast no deep divots. the question is as far as the repair goes do i tape off right along the existing glass and lay down the new glass just where it ripped off or do i overlap the new glass over the existing edges?

If I’m visualizing this the way you describe, I would over lap the first piece an inch or so and then overlap another piece a 2 or 3 three inches, then feather the whole deal smooth. Mike

sand down the glass on both sides of the strip, feather the edges as far as you can at least 1/2 inch back from the edge. Lay down a strip of glass that will cover the whole area, but not on to the old glass then lay down a wider one, up on to the feathered edges., go past the sanded area up on to the old glass. I would use 4 oz since it is a short board it was more then likely glassed with just one layer of 4 to start out with. Now remove the top layer of glass and mix up some sanding resin, and apply a thin layer of resin over the first piece of glass makeing sure to wet it out real well, not lay down the top layer of glass and apply some more sanding resin but this time make it a little thicker so as to cover the glass real well and leave some resin to sand down. As the resin starts to kick take a knife and clean off all of the resin that got on to the old glass(this will save you sanding time later). Let it all kick and sand it down.
