True “differences” to look out for… People who never made any choices to be “different”. Theyve never really thought about being different, and don
t care what anyone else thinks about them, anyway. Theyre usually much too busy just being themselves... a way which feels entirely "normal" to them. The world is full of amazingly intelligent, technically-oriented people... but they
re frequently the ones who gain their greatest satisfaction by making everything more complicated than it really needs to be. The spark of true genius often reveals itself through the ability to transform needless complexity into profound simplicity. You wont find many of them around. Surfers often can
t tell the differences between riding a wave and surfing their board. Some different questions: do we ride a particular way simply because we want to? Is it because our chosen way works better? Or maybe its because we just don
t like other means of surfing? How much of our choices are based on a desire to be seen as different, pure function, or current fashion? Shapers and glassers often fail to take advantage of the valuable differences between perfecting their skills and experimenting with new paradigms, materials and techniques. Opening themselves to the probability of failure, yet gaining the opportunity to discover… to be captive students of serendipity.
Like I say, “Simple ain’t easy.”
Dale… You just nail the essence of “the Trip” so often… Happy New Year… Paul
There’s an elegance in simplicity it’s been said. Or maybe I was just stuck in a rut. Regardless, my best wishes to all of you for the coming year and I hope you ride many beautiful waves via the method of your choice. Best regards to you Dale. Hope family all ok and son gets home safely. I was floored when you mentioned he was overseas as I still picture him (them) as in the photos I have. I forgot the photos were that old and the boys are now young men. Yikes, we ARE getting older. LOL Take care.
