Just scored a new to me tufflite board off of cl and has small ding by the nose that is epoxy clear on a yellow board. I was wondering if I could paint area and what kind of paint to use?
I may be wrong, but I think I saw some tuflite brand paint for repairs in my local surfshop...it is not a custom color so they probably have the color you are looking for
paint it with any water based paint, or spray paint it, just seal it with a krylon clear coat or something similar
There's a similar thread here about Boardworks etc I used to do alot of ding repair on boards that came out of the Cobra Factory. Among those were Southpoint, Boardworks, Surftech, Naish, C-4 etc. You can usually come up with a color that is close enough from Home Depots' rattle cans as they have a large selection. Feather the paint chip back and then prime with Depots' cheap spray primer. Lightly wet and dry the primed area with 400 or 600. Spray paint with the closest color you can find in a rattle can. Topcoat with Krylon or some type of spary can clear coat that is compatable. That should do it..
On this picture the Hobie longboard is a surftec tuf lite It was purple like around the logo , I used car spray paint and clear and it did a good job!!!
I used a spray paint kylor and today I will spray a clear coat for protection but I found out the hard way not to use blue painters tape whcih caused slight fade of color around paint job. Duh!!
Not sure what you mean about the tape and slight fade. What I usually do is pull my tape back to where another color or pinline starts. Using tape and paper to keep overspray off of adjacent colors or pinlines. You will avoid tape lines on the color you're matching if you just fog and fade your spray.
The fade happen when I peeled the tape back and never had this happen w/ a p/u board so this was new to me. The area I taped off is now lighter around the area I painted but really I am not a perfectionist so I don’t care to much. Next time I will know not to use painter tape to tape off work area and most likely will use shrink wrap in the future or open for suggestions.
