Turbo Fin???

Anyone out there tried a Turbo-fin on a longbooard? The only feedback I’ve gotten so far is, “Oh man, they work great!” That was from the designer however. Just beginning surfing again after a long hiatus, my skills are so rusty I can’t tell any difference from any previous fin I’ve used. Just wondering and figured this site would be the best place to pose the question. Mahalo, Old Longboarder

I have never tried them on a long board. I had them on a thruster about 15 years ago. I can remeber how the “turbo” feeling coming out of a cutback. I would assume they would work just as well on a long board if set up properly. I find it funny how every thing comes back around. These turbo fins where laughed at back when I had tne board with them, I admit I thought that they where a gimmick until I rode them (the only reason they got a chance was the board was a DEAL so i couldn’t pass it by).

I was back home a few weeks ago and went to strong current, pick the fin up and was stoked because i heard some things about it. The problem is very simple for me…it did not not fit in the box! I told john at the store and well he was bumbed! he wanted to know how it worked! sorry not much feed back but it just didnt fit in my box. I have a surftech 9ft r/f hp. every thing else fits the box. be on the look out for EZ-KIN fin!!! they rock!! I have a sample of their 7.5 it fits like a glove…you never need the nut!!! Good luck…

Sorry, I was talking about a totally different fin/s. Is the turbo fin the one with the tube in it?

Yes, it’s the fin with the tube in the center of it. Back in the good ol’ days, we used to drill the old glass on fins and intall adjustable horizontal stabilizers made of aluminum that could be raised or lowered to help lift the nose for longer nose rides. When I saw this Turbo-Fin, I immeadiately remembered our 60s homemade stabilizers. They worked really well. Thought the turbo fin will afford the same or near the same end performance although it isn’t adjustable horizontally. Aloha and Mahalo, Old Longboarder

I was refering to the side fins that are bowed, back in mid eighties rainbow fins made em and called them turbo fins. I have seen that FCS is now making bowed side fins.

chris, i’ve been using the curved fcs fins on and off for about a year, with and without the keel center fin. i pretty much only use them in small or mushy waves…they give a lot of drive and carry speed out of turns well, but i find they feel “pivoty”, i assume from their extreme upright rake, which forces me to surf the board further back on the tail. until i figured that out i found myself bogging my rail a lot. i’ve used them in boards from 6’5" to 6’10", so i can’t say what they would be like in a longboard. lately i’ve been sticking with the trusty G-AM from fcs. the fins i’d like to try are the TC-redlines…super wide base, narrow tip, they look killer.
