I built this kneeboard with EPS core and 1/4" airex top and bottom and airex rails a while ago.
Airex is a high density foam with lower strength and more flex than some other high density foams like Klegecell. It’s closed cell. The idea was to keep water away from the EPS core and to add strength.
Glassed in 2x4oz top and bottom with epoxy. Came in at ~2lbs without fins.
Tackled a few late take offs and airs the other day and smashed my knee into the deck and split the deck cloth to the lap at the rails about 1/3 up from tail. No delam or crease or cracks evident on bottom deck. Possibly the airex let the core flex enough to crack the deck without snapping the core?
Anyway, I was going to cut out a 2" wide strip, put in a layer of cloth and use it to glue the strip back. Then wrap a 4-8" diamond of 4oz around the rails and fair in. Good enough to keep it together until I finish my new Sri Lanka quiver?
IMO , 2lb is way too light , even for a kneeboard…if you fix the damage , then add some weight with another layer of glass , it will perform better , and have the required durability.
