Quick (and probably dumb) question: I just cemented down my home-made shaping racks and found one of them canted laterally to significant degree - enough to notice with your eye anyway. I put a rubber pad under the base (5 gal bucket) on the affected side, which seems to help a bit, plus the racks are pretty well padded up top. Is this gonna cause problems down the road?
I’m working right now on a set I cemented 2 days ago. I leveled them off, BUT dumb ass me did in on a slanted drive way. Once I realized it one was too far set to fix. You just have to adjust your risers and try to level them that way. Plus you can sand the top level and even though it’s slanted, you can probably save it unless it’s off in both axis.
Yeah, it’s only off in side-to-side axis, not fore-and-aft. I’m gonna finish the board I’m currently on, the maybe attempt some kind of levelling if need be. What type of risers do you use? Thanks for the reply.
Take and put 1x4 between the 2x4 riser and the 4x4 in the ground so it spaces it out a bit. But before that screw a 5" piece of 4x4 to the tops of the 2x4’s. Then taped Carpet foam over the whole thing after sanding it with the belt sander to remove ALL square edges just to be safe. If you look in the archives it’s in there under photos/tools
You absolutely need your racks to be level. If you have tweeked racks your gonna shape a twist into your board. Make sure everything is level right down to the padding. When you lay your blank on the racks use a level to check side to side levelness
