Can someone help direct me by suggesting some shapers for a modern twin fin in Santa Cruz or the Bay Area in general. Thanks in advance.
John Mel at Freeline, Bob Pearson, Carl Olson, Dane Perlee at Arrow, Mani Caro at Mandala, Alex at MurderTheLip.com, Ward Coffey, Bob Miller at ASD, Joey Thomas(if he is still shaping) and I would guess Steve Coletta at Natural Curves
It’s Olsen with an “E” =) -Carl
John Mel (Freeline)of course. Bob Pearson (Arrow) Makes one of the best traditional keel fined fish I’ve seen in town. One of my buddies has one that he just got from there shop. It’s truely a fine piece of work. Nick Pallandrini ~ Source surfboards, check with Ross at Fiberglass Santa Cruz. Ralph Headrick glasses for a shaper who does some beautiful traditional boards. He’s name slips my mind right now but check with Freeline they can put you in touch with him. Don’t overlook Doug Haut, the guy is a real artist and has tremendous knowledge about traditional shapes. Steve at Natural Curves and Coffey are also a possibilities but I don’t think either are doing very many twin fins these days. There are lots of other excellent shapers here in town but these would be my top choices here in Santa Cruz. Mahalo, Rich
Hey actually the guy that is doing the really nice keel fish at Arrow is Dane Perlee. Currently he is slightly obsessive about them [smile] If you are looking for one of those in particular, definitly look him up @ Arrow surfboards.
Dane’s twins look great its true but Carl is too modest, we have a couple of his shapes and they are winners- I’ve seen a couple of his modern fishes and they look good too.
Carl also shapes a nice log. I now base all of my own long shapes on a 9’6 Performer template he made for me when I was glossing at Arrow a few years back- thin and blady, killer noserider. Carl, did Waylon graduate yet? Back killing 2nd peak I’m sure. Not sure why I ever left there. Later- ryan
Thanks alot you guys… Ryan, yeah Waylon graduated last year, and is back in SC up to his usual antics at Pleasure Point… although he has become a bit of a workaholic after his schooling. But it’s all good. Hows the Great Lakes? Why you moved back there is beond me. [smile] Steiny see you Wends. -Carl
Hey Carl, tell Waylon congrats for me. I learned a lot from you guys, in the water and the shop, and I’m grateful for it. Finally graduated here and plan a return to the salt soon, maybe see you at the point sometime down the road. Adios- ryan
