Twin fin, who do I pay?

I’m not making thrusters anymore so I’m cutting of the checks to Simon.

For my new Lis twin fin, I am making out checks as follows: $2 to Bob Simmons (his estate) for the twin fin, $2 for Steve for the fish outline, $3 to Loehr for the EPS and resin technology, PVC stringer and the vee bottom (won’t work with out that and I’m not kidding).

The leg rope has me stumped, though. And the stringer. Was that Hobie?

You can pay me! =)

For the leg rope, send the check to the estate of Phil Castignola, late of Select Surf Shop in Pacific Beach, SD, Ca. Simmons is a good choice for the Twin Fin. Though the first twin fin I ever saw was made by Alan Nelson. It was 5’ long, Balsa, with twin half moon fins. A definate influence by Bob Simmons. The year was 1958. As far as who to send the money to for the stringer, most likely Simmons. He was mixing foam and wood right after WW II, and applying Fiberglass. Yikes!!! Don’t forget to send him money for that too. Man, this is getting expensive!

Bill, Thanks for the input, and I’m glad you took it in the spirit in which I mentioned it. Is all good. Seems like we are standing on someones shoulders at one time or another.

Greg,

AMEN, BROTHER ! We ALL take inspiration from others. And we are sometimes privilaged to stand on the shoulders of giants. I know I was. I was directly influeced in my early years, 1958-1960, by Wayne Land, Alan Nelson, Pat Curren, Del Cannon, and Phil Edwards. With the exception of Phil, all were Windansea “regulars”. Without exception, ALL of the above were a powerful influence on the development of the sport of Surfing as we know it today.

I like this kind of question.

Because I get to read surf history.

Two fins, who knows? Some random Hawai’ian.

Perhaps a relative of someone who posts here:-)

I Googled Tom Blake fins …

“Less than a year after he introduced the skeg, “others were trying fins, mostly crude items, but some were using two and three fin setups,” wrote Chris Ahrens.”
