I need the basic dos and donts on glassing on Twin Keels in a fish. My board was made in china and the boxes were in the totally wrong spot. I am using jb weld to play with where the fins should live. any insight would be great…
This has to be a joke and I’m not biting.
youre right, its a joke, whatever, forget it…good vibes your way too asshole
Hello Sir - I’m not a very good glasser, but check out fiberglass Hawaii on YouTube. It should help.Good luck.
I like them around 7" from the tail. Some toe and some cant as well. I’ll bet there is heaps of placement info in the archives. Love a good twin keel. I’m fussy with mine, I like a good wave for it, not just junk.
On a 5’8 x 21 classic style fish. I like the rear edge of the fin lined up with the crack and the pins. So about 6 1/4 up & 1 3/8 off the rail. I like 80/20 foiled fins. They seem to be the best of both worlds, they flow like 50/50 fins but still have a nice flat edge to turn off of. I use Gephart style keels. About 5" in deep 8" base. If you need help with glass on process “deadshaper” posted something under glass on fins that’s extreamly helpful.
Ohh & 1/8" toe & cant.
I usually go 7 1/4" from tail tip to trailing edge. 1 1/4" from rail. I’ll set to 1/8" toe in and usually about degrees cant.
I usually set mine in position with some 1 minute epoxy Then glass on with rovings and 3 full patches each side.
Cheers and good luck. Rich
Good info guys. Thx
I agree, this is good info that doesn’t pop up right away in a Google search.
Naturalchapl, does any of this shed light on what’s up with the stock locations on your board?
Rich, how many degrees cant do you suggest?
Anybody ever go back to Jim Knistle’s book Surfboard Design and Construction for the Steve Lis’ dimensions? It is referenced in several old threads. -J
I prefer a little toe and cant in the keels. No rake, or even slight reverse rake too. Still tonnes of drive but they turn much better IMHO
I line the trailing ends up with the tips and the top of the crack. Usually 6.5 inches up and 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches off the rail. With double foiled fins, straight up, no toe in. With single foiled fins 1/8th inch toe in and about 4 degrees can’t. Never tried 80/20’s so won’t comment although it sounds interesting. Mike
