Twin or twinzer? Pottz style 5'8"

I’ve searched and searched the archives and there are so many different ideas out there on twin fin placement. I have no clue where to go with this board.

It’s 5’8"x191/4"x25/8",

I am thinking straight Twin and keep the retro vibe/feel,

or go twinzer (i’ve been riding a few lately that I like)

So, any help with fin placement? Any one have a board similar and have thier placement dims dialed?

Also I was gonna drop futures in here, Any fin recommendations?

Ok, Did a bit more research last night and Here is what I was thinking:

Main Fins:

9" up from tail

1 1/4" from rail

1/8" toe and 4 deg cant

For the fronts:

1/2" overlap, 1 3/8" channel, with the same toe and 10 degree cant

Does this sound like its in the right ball park? Specifically the main fins. Wondering how that would work for both a pure twin and with some help up front

There are a wide range of placements being used .

Mine are the furthest back .

Use a 5-6 degree cant if the board is not concave at the fin area .

Thanks so much for the advice! Your boards look so sweet! If I were still living on Molokai, Instead of the East Coast, I would have Gotten one for sure!

I have noticed your fins a pushed back looks like 6", Do you use the same main fin placement, for both setups? Whats the advantages you found with that fins back? I’m a Little shorter 5’6" but 180lb, and I tend to power through turns etc. So Im interested in the fins further back. If the drive and hold do tack too much away from the release! Am I on the right track here?

I size the fins for the placement and width of the board .  Fins are   5" - 5 3/8" in 1/8" incriments .

These rearward placements have a large sweet spot like a thruster with the speed and freedom  a good twin has .

I converted this Neck Beard at C.I. into this type of twin .

Arron head of product devvelopment at Rincon on this board .

your bottom design reminds me of a quiver I once had.

I’m about to glass my board and I set fins off the rail 1 1/4" and tow 1/8". Maybe ilI try 5 deg of cant -Greg suggested. My tail is pretty wide at 16 1/2" so I’m wondering if 6 deg might make it easier to turn?

Why are you hijacking this thread for that?

I’ve got an original board that is very similar to the original poster’s modern one.  Board has had some damage and repairs but is a survivor.  I like it just for the vintage stickers.  Here are a few pictures to show the fin layout.  Board is 5’9 and 19 1/4.  Fins are set at 16 3/4 and 8 measured from the tips of the tail to the leading edge.

Thanks Mako,

Board looks like its alot of fun, for a change it up session! that quad set up is so different then what we are used to seeing today, How did it ride?

Tommy C.

I’ve never ridden it.  Another one of my auction finds.  Haven’t touched it other than to clean the wax off.  Just like the look.  Board’s way too small for me.  I’d need that shape in a 6’4 to float me.

Tak - CHP  was the licensee for T&C in the 80’s to use there label to make and sell  clothing  .

He did amazing things for them :-)

Greg - I like your tri fin! I wouldn’t mind doin it to mine, but I don’t have a third fin!!! would five deg be ok on mine? Tia and love your boards!

After checking out your design, I’d place the fins close to those stingers in the outline so it can all work together as one magic sweet spot.  I change up my fin placement to work with the board’s design all the time.  I find it helps to place my foot where its going to go and to have the leading edge of the fin just in front of that, (on twinnies). Be careful though, too far back and the board might feel stiff. That 9" mark looks like it might work perfect for your application. I think people get locked into recommended numbers way too often and we forget about our own ability to adapt to different design aspects. If you have any doubt, you can alway use 5 fin plugs for infinite options.   I ride a twin fin 90% of the time, but I’m loving Greg’s set-up with the three fins set in-line and further back and I’ll probably be hitting him up for a set of his fins as a christmas present to myself.

good luck,

g

I have something similar in the works: 5’6 x 19 1/2 x 2 3/8. I’m looking at main fins at 7, but I’m going to use gearbox or 4wfs so that I can have some fore/aft adjustment.  I’m a big fan of Jobson’s twinzers. His mains are more like 8 3/4. What twinzers are you riding now?

Matching Father/Son combo - how cool is that?
