two 4oz or one 6 ?!

I’ve had an ongoing debate with a bud…which is a “superior” lam ?..two four ounces, or one six!!! (take the term - superior - as you will). your rationale ? thanks, T.

Ill take the two layers of 4 oz., thank you! Laminated correctly, itll have a higher glass content, generally be stronger and have more resiliency, not as brittle. You really begin noticing these differences if you`re building surfcraft or fins with lots of active flex and torque.

Someone posted a while back that two 4oz layers is lighter than one 6oz.

Someone posted a while back that two 4oz layers is lighter than one layer of 6oz. YES,If it is done properly, two 4oz layers are thinner, and saturate less resin,so they are also lighter,by about 30% approx. Double 4oz is stronger than one layer of 8oz(7.5),by about 20% approx.Herb.

The 4 oz. also takes less hot coat to fill the weave which in itself is a real plus as far as weight\strength. If you use a 6 and 4 combo always put the 4 on top. aloha

Thanks for all of your responses, boys!..Just as I had thought! (I “concur”!!!). really appreciate the feedback…aloha, T.
