I live there. I have friends there. I have not seen too many restrictions on anyone (certainly their culture places different demands on their behavior than ours does on us, but the government just isn’t omnipresent like people think). I thought all the same stuff, then I saw for myself. I really like it over there, the people are wonderful.

It is happening right now. Most surfboards on the rack today look just like the boards from ten years ago, and pretty much even like the boards from twenty years ago. We haven’t had a true design revolution since the Shortboard Revolution, and materials have not changed much in 40 years. The next radical design/material revolution will come out of the factories in Asia. Guaranteed.
