Swaylocker’s, Lend me you ears…
Like all of you, I am passionate about our craft. Building surfboards is my life’s pursuit and one that I share with my family. Surfboard design is normal conversation around our dinner table. I do the shaping, Mom does artistic design with the airbrush and the wife works on the clothing line.
We are a small family run business and have tons of fun with each board we build. Nothing is more satisfying to us then making our customer’s ‘dream board’ a reality. We have certainly stumbled in our journey. Thanks to Swaylocks and it’s participants we have gleaned volumes of great information to help us along the way.
With what resources we have we try to give back to the surfing community. We proudly volunteered our time to help Hermosa Beach middle school kids get ‘hands on’ through the Surfer Divas program sponsored by Cerritos College http://hbcsd.org/surf/
Additionally we are proud to sponsor the largest women’s surf competition on the East Coast, The East Coast Wahine Championships for our 3rd consecutive year. http://www.eastcoastwahines.com
Much to our surprise, Uhuru was given the distinct honor of being placed on the ballot for the REEF / Surfing sponsored 2008 OC Board Build Off. 40 top shapers in the OC area are included on the ballot. The 12 shapers who receive the most votes are charged with building the most creative, rideable, surfboard they can imagine. The boards will be on display at the 2008 Surf Expo in San Diego in January. The boards will be auctioned and all proceeds benefit charity. The board that garners the highest bid will be named the winner.
To Uhuru this is both a great honor and tremendous opportunity. Our creative team would love to participate and this would certainly be topic for many family dinners to come. We need and respectfully ask for your vote!
Check for us on the ballot as “John Reinhard - Uhuru Surfcraft”.
