US BLANKS COLOR FOAM BLANKS

NO SPRAY

Will they do customs?

Back in the late seventies East coast foam did some colored blanks before being pushed out of business by Clark. We used them alot at Rise Surfboards and liked them alot. not as vibrant of color as the US blanks. I do remember liking the density , and foam structure. Shaped well and glassed up reaslly nice. A good friend still has one. I will try to get some pics and post them.

TBLANK There are many color combos. I did some 3 pannel 3 stringer ones that looked really cool. Having the color in the blank saves time and keeps the board on schedule without delays in the process. This one comes from a 73A red and a 73A Yellow were they split the panels. The Tee-Band stringer is 1/8" Bass center with 1/8" Cedar on each side. Plus I got matching deck rockers. So yes they do custom. It was cool to see the color pop while it was being cut. After plowing a bunch of white boards it was good on the eyes to see something different.

When I met Grubby Clark around 1973 he had colored blanks that were also lighter than usual. So this is nothing new however it is worth exploring all the different combos with densities and mixing some color to make it less boring.  With the new lighter formulas and colored foam we may have some fun this winter playing around with various combinations.

Surfding

Very Cool S’Ding Thanks for the reply. I remember hearing Clark had colored blanks at one time but never came across any. This means a red board will be and hopefully stay RED. It would be neat to register your own color/s and have that distinction of product. I know there are some real artists with pigments and resin a la D Brawner, but it has always been a pain to me. Thanks  Again.

Sammy, I thought the same thing. Imagine the possibilities, not only solid color but swirls, logos, you name it. It is a wonder this never caught on.

Ditto that on S’Dings color choice.

I wonder why no one ever did this in production, before? Just as you can add pigment to resin, why not pigment the foam chemicals before pouring/molding? Gives a real uniform color and allows for some cool combinations.

I like the use of the royal Hawaiian colors on that one, surfding. Very fitting.

Acid Swirls is a good Ideal. The Red and Yellow does produce a Royal Hawaiian feel. The Foam Colors are much richer than in the past.

Its a nightmare to clean up.  Red dust everywhere.

White Dust is easier??

when white dust gets on your other white boards its not a big deal.  red dust is.

AhSo Number One Son. Hadn’t thought about that. It could really muck up a lam job. Thanks for the clarification.

I vacuum my dust instead of blowing it around. Your right vpravada  takes a different cleaning proceedure other wise it can be messy.

Hi Tblank,

Yeah US Blanks does custom foam colors along with stringers set ups.  They do about ten different colors.  As you can see possiblities are endless!  If we place our custom orders by Fridays we get them in our shop the following Weds, pretty darn fast.

Let us know if we can help.

Good luck-

Brad

Foam EZ is a good source!

Hi Brad, thanks for the verification. and yeah your right pretty fast turn around. Personally, I always liked a Seafoam Green triple stringer with cedar or redwood stringers. Never got far away from the Phil Edwards or Red Fin models. After all this time they still turn me on. Thanks for your service Brad!

And to S’Ding for the tip.

this is prb a stupid question but how come no company that makes eps try adding color? i know the sealing w/ fastnfinal could make the color look bad. but marko foam w/ rr kk or some other fast setting epoxy doesnt need to be sealed.

Hi Summersess,

We use to stock the Marko Parabolics with colored foam.   They looked really neat but we didn’t have much interest in them.  I know that Lost Surfboards was using those colored blanks for a while.  I just spoke to Marko and they said currently they only have blue color in the 6-8JJ available.  They don’t need to be sealed.

Good luck-

Brad

Making a new quiver for my son. Two colored blanks per week should get it done.
