What kind of layup are you guys using whith the poly US Blanks Red foam. This stuff seems soft as hell and I’m not overshaping, just one pass on the top and bottom with the planer then on to foiling, roughing in etc.
This is for a shortboard and a fish. Seems like if I go 4 botom 4x4 deck I’ll destroy it quickly.
I’ve noticed the US RED is pretty soft under only one planer pass as well. My last shortboard got pretty dented on a 4/4 deck schedule after only a few surfs with minimal taken of the top.
If you’re not concerned with weight, try adding a 4 oz deck patch or going with a 6/4 deck. Otherwise, let the denting commence.
For glass I 'm going with my standard 3 x 3.2oz. (two on the bias @ 45deg.) (one north to south at 0/90) on the deck…
On the bottom: 2x 3.2oz. (both on the bias) with a butterfly fin patch at 0 / 90 north to south…These are Kite-surfboards…
3.2oz. x 3 layers of glass is basically the same as 6 + 4 in weighted value… If you put 2 of the 3’s on the 45deg. bias they’re stronger and more dent resistant than a 6/4 deck…
I’ve got over 50 yards of 6oz. Volan S-glass and 6oz. silane s-glass for anyone interested…
Other than the cool coke bottle green, I have no use for the 6oz. volan S…
Full 6/4 decks, 4 bottoms automatic. Also try to talk the buyer into a 4 butterfly tail patch or carbon strips to prevent tail cancer. Anything less the buyer gets a warning.
Thanks guys, 6x4 on the deck was what I was thinking. Have to think about that Volan Kiterider. Good info there DMP, thanks. One is going to a freind who does a lot of air reverse attemps and lands real hard on his front foot but he’s 150 lbs. I told him it will be a little heavier but it will last longer hopefully haha. I’m used to the old Clarks where 4x4x4 was pretty solid.
