Used surfboards

Does anyone know of a surf shop, in any area, that sells used surfboards only. This is open to used surf equipment as well, wetsuits, fins, etc. I’m doing a school project, marketing, and have been asked to find out. Also if there would be an interest in a shop like this. I know that a shop that sells new boards makes little on the profit side and relies on other products to fill in the margins.

Phil, I don’t know of any who do this, and since surfing is such a hot ticket right now many shops outside the peak population areas sometimes doe’t even have much used inventory. Also most coastal Southern California areas have some sort of used sporting goods stores which have surfing/snowboarding/skiing/watersports sections, further diluting the “used only” opportunities. In addition to that, coastal rent/lease prices might be kind of high for such a store. And then there might be the modern short board durability issue…

TK’s Froghouse in Newport Beach, CA does a lot of used equipment sales.

So really the answer is (so far) that a shop like that doesn’t exist? I know that most shops consign boards…what if a shop where to buy outright and resell and have a hugh selection, long board, mid boards, and short boards in all different grades condition and age. The same with wet suits and possibly other board products too. Of course the shop would have to buy the boards low in order to sell and make a profit. Frog House has only limited supply just like all the other shops, it’s a hit and miss situation and the prices are usually not negotionable and if they are the person selling has to contacted, for a consigned board. Who knows the answer?

Try “Play It Again Sports” in many So. Cal. cities. They sell used wetsuits, boogie boards, and surfboards, as well as other sporting equipment too.

That’s right they do. I’ll check them out.

Most of those 2nd hand sporting goods stores are pretty weak. Overpriced and underquality as far a things related to surfing.

“Azhiaziam” in Los Osos carries only used boards on consignment. They also sell a very limited selection of clothing and accessories so I didn’t think they qualified based on your original question. I don’t know of any place that sells only used boards.
