Using Foam Rubber For Rail Patches?

Doing some ding repair for a neighbor’s board , removing an already questionable repaired rail ding that was craqcking. Started sanding it down and hit a foam rubber wedge patch! No glass, just resin over it. Anyone ever hear of this? Removed it and used some good old polyurethane.

Slack repairer, you did well to remove the offending piece…

Never saw anything like that - but I can sure understand why it was cracking. Amazing what well-intentioned amateurs will try.

Me, I’d like to find some sort of polyurethane glue ( Gorilla Glue type stuff ) that’d go off white rather than amber-brown. Would make repairs a whole lot simpler…

foam rubber chunks …yeesh ( shaking my head) , that’s one for the books.
