I had a customer come to me with a non surfboard related project. I think im going to use what I have in the shop and do a hand layup with poly resin and use foam to sculp the molds and hand lay it on top. to build the parts.
Any ideas on something to place between the foam and the glass to prevent the sticking but maintain the shape? I was thinking saran or foil or something to that extent but if anyone else has a good idea id be curious to see your responses.
Yeah I was thinking of messing with this 3m spray mold release I have,I dont have any scrap foam to mess test stuff out. figured id shoot for a few ideas before blanks come tomorrow.
for the molds im basically chopping up a reject blank and shaping the design into the foam with a dremel and sander for the most part then layer by layer building up the glass on top, pulling the mold then cleaning it up, polishing it and painting it.
Can you glass the foam mold before building up your parts? Pu is so porous that it seems like it would not be a very good mold unless it was for one time use only. But if you could glass it or maybe even just seal it with resin then you would have a non porous surface and a mold release would work as intended.
See thats why I love this place im looking high and low for the hard answer when the simplist answer was there all along. Ill just throw some gloss resin on the foam then spray the mold release on that.
