UV Cure and decals

Quick question Swaylockers …

I’ve built two boards so far with poly / mekp resin. My next board I’m going to try UV cure but I’m not sure what to do with decals. I use rice paper and want to know if there is any difference when using UV cure. Previously I just spread a small amount of resin on the blank, set in the decal, soak through with the squeegee, then lam straight over.

With UV, someone mentioned to me you need to set the decal on the blank with an mekp mix, let it dry, them lam over with the UV. I would’ve thought you could do it as per the mekp method, just make sure it is soaked though … The UV should bake all the way through.

Appreciate any advice.

Pretty keen to give the UV a go.

Cheers

It’s safer to apply the decal with catilized resin and let dry. I have had mixed results doing it with UV. Unless you are in mass production and in a big hurry take my word for it and spend the xtra few minutes. There are those that will argue this point so it’s your call. Have fun.

There might be some useful info for you here: http://www.swaylocks.com/forums/oops-day . It’s a happy ending, I think I just saw the board being riden on the hurricane pics thread.

Thanks Cleanlines … Sound like good advice. I’d rather get it right than rush.

All my UV jobs have a little bit of catalyst. This way I still get the benefits of UV fast, with the peace of mind that only catalized resin gives.

I use uv on every board there are good bits and bad bits all the bad bits are cured with mekp

uv is great and really help quicken things up and u dont get as much of the mekp cure smells!

Logos just add 1 cc to your small mix squeegee some down and over the top flatten out logo and uv it once it starts to  gel take it out especially with black logos if you cook it they can air out!!
