Am going over to UV resin for my boards now. Unfortunately to keep out of the light I have to glass in a shed which only has a normal width door!!
How the hell can I get the board outside to the sun without putting it on my back and crawling out? What I mean is I can’t fit me and the board held flat out of the door at the same time
I have a narrow door too, I use UV cure but always catalyze. When the lamination or hotcoat is ‘safe’ to move/handle, put on some disposable food service gloves and walk it a few steps to my outdoor rack in the sun to quickly finish it off. Ready to sand in minutes if needed, speeds up dissipation of the fumes too. I only build shortboards so YMMV
gdaddy that’s a great idea! Glove up, lift it over your head, wear a hat to avoid getting drips in your hair, and walk that sucker outside. Or, you could use a mirror or other reflective materials to reflect light onto the board which will kick it enough to handle it. Still wear gloves.
Hold it underneath with your fingers spread wide for balance, lift it over your head and walk like a duck out the door. I’ve mastered it, so it can be done.
I hold it like a waiter holds a tray of food, just raised over my head and centered. You can use one hand or two… one fore and one aft. A bit tricky in the wind, but when it’s windy, I don’t usually glass with UV because stuff can get blown onto it and get stuck.
I do the same as others glass inside carry out through a standard door. Take an unshaped blank and practice. You don’t really hold it straight over head just high and to the side enough to fit your head and the board. Trick is to not make any turns until the tail or nose clears the doorway. Next time your at a restaurant watch the wait staff they have it wired.
Food service gloves as mentioned and just carry it out the door on rail under your arm. Soon as you get it outside check to make sure the cloth didn't pull where you were holding it. I gave up the Saran Wrap for plastic food service gloves by the box years ago. Flippin' catylized boards to check or cut the rail, move boards around etc. Food service gloves.
…like I mentioned in other thread I have been having really bad experiences with UV powder under direct Sunlight. The Surfblanks (at least in the lightest density) are gassing and let me tiny bubbles in couple of places (most of my boards are painted)
-Hey Bud wiser, man is not really recommendable to sand the hot coat until 12 hours with UV. Keep that on mind and the glass will holds pretty good for several years
Similar problem here. I’ll laminate a long in a week and my
big problem is that my shaping room is not long enough. What I’ll do is to make a tent by PVC cloth 3m x 1.9m x 1.5m and laminate it outside. When i finish i just have to open one side of the tent.
