UV resin

Does anybody know of a U.K. stockist of Solarez or similar U.V. resin as I fancy trying some as ‘ordinary’ resin seems to go off in the container before I can use it all up. By which I mean I only make a couple of boards a year, not that I put too much catalyst in it !!!

The usual culprits (Seabase) don’t seem to stock it.

Any help appreciated.

Seabase have the UV powder on their website shop http://www.seabase.eu/products/cat/Chemicals/UV-Cure-Powder-(Suncure)/

Sorry was away from a computer for a few days, thanks for quick reply.

Can I use the sun - cure with ordinary Seabase 7x resin ?

Are there any problems I should look out for using sun-cure ?

thanks in advance.

Hi Pete -

Unfortunately the UV cure resin has the same shelf life as 'ordinary' resin.  I.E. it will eventually crystalize in the can... depending on the age and storage conditions, polyester resin (including UV cure) usually starts getting chunky in about a year or so.  I like to see a date on the cans so I have a general idea how fresh it is.

Hey Pete,

I use UV mostly on all my stuff. The first thing you need to know is simply this...if you can't see through it the sun can't either...so opaque colors, logos , fin plugs, boxes, etc...you will need to add MEKP to make it go off.  I add a few drops to each batch just so the stuff that runs off onto the floor will cure eventually.  I have also used shaping dust to make it glob up and scrap it all up in wad and set it outside to go off and throw away.

Anyway...lot's of people using it...I love the stuff!

Brilliant will definately try it now.

It seems that it will allow me the time I need to do a decent lam job for a change. I ALWAYS seem to run out of time !!! Plus I do clear boards anyhow as I can’t wait to get them in the water !!

Yeah it definitley helped me with glassing...I like it so much I made a UV booth from an old tanning bed I got for $300. Now I can control the cure for cut laps etc...like I said...LOVE...the stuff.

Good luck on your project!
