Has anyone ever tried this? I don’t mean pronounced grooves into the foam but smaller and more frequent in a thick hotcoat. Maybe done with some sort of fabricated roller when the hotcoat has gelled. They could start like similar channels 1/3 up from the tail and bend out to the rails or just continue straight back. Would this help any on a shortboard, i though it was kinda a cool idea to fool around with. Any insight on this would be awsome. Dave
If you start them in the last third of the tail and take it straight back it may work good. It might be like a channel bottom surfboard, really fast and won’t slide out on deep power turns. Good luck!
It was done in the '70s, can’t remember who did it.
If I remember well, the guy put parrallel strings all along the bottom and hot-coated over them, then pulled out the strings at gel-time.
I never saw one except on photos (SURFER MAG or other) and don’t know about feedback on this. It should have been a nightmare, production-wise, anyway…
I have a board like that, I will post pics later today.

Thanks it would be awsome to see the pics whenever you got a chance. I was thinking more along the lines of rolling the grooves in with a roller or something, but strings maybe be a better idea to test out. Its the winter here so this will keep me busey.
the grooves in my board are like someone taped off every 1/4" with 1/4"tape so it makes long shallow straight grooves just go up about 1/3. sorry about the pic, the board is stashed up in my rafters, so I will try to get it down again tomorrow.

here are some pics of the channels. The board is an old Sidney Madden I bought off my friend for $10.

Thanks man those are pretty much what i intend to do only in a V-shape. Maybe if they are on a thruster, direct them towards then fins. Who knows what could work. Ill post the pics when i get to that point…hopefully soon though. Peace
